what intake and cam should i run?
i am looking to put a 5.3 or 6.0 in my 1970 chevy c10 with a 4l60e... i would like to have at least 400hp and at some point i might turbo it... i plan on camming it too what cam would you guys suggest too? i know i am goin to probably run 799 heads. and headers... i have a very knowledgeable friend that suggests a 92mm fast intake and TB, or a 85mm bbk intake and TB. I am used to SBC where the only intakes anyone runs is holley edelbrock and weiand..

These are very loaded questions. If money is no issue, fast intake, custom grind cam, big nasty converter. If there is a budget get whatever intake you find a deal on. There are tons of cams that will make 400hp. That debate could go on forever. If your friend really is knowledgeable in the LS world, just go with his recommendations. People are always suggesting this cam and that cam on here without even having all the specs.(weight, gears, tire, goals, etc.) If you call any cam manufacturer with that info they will grind you up a good bump stick. Most of them have done tons of dyno testing, and know there business.

well i cant say there is no budget lol, but i dont wasnt to cheap out and not reach my goal, or if i want more power (which i probably will) at some point, i dont want to have to buy a whole new top end.. im will be running a 373 rear with i believe a 11" wide 20" tall drag radials, my truck weighs about 4,000 lbs, its not a heavy truck, plus this drivetrain is lighter then the old sbc...

I would get a custom grind cam unless you find a cam that matches your setup exactly. Call one of the sponsors on here like Texas Speed, Tick Performance etc. All of them can set you up with what you need. If money isn't a issue I would definitely get a FAST. Getting 400rwhp out of a 5.3 can be a little hard without some real good heads but it has been done.

Go with the 6.0 for sure. As 2000pewter said it will be much harder to make 400rwhp though an automatic with a 5.3 than it would with a 6.0.
I've got a new line of "Saturday Night Special" torque cams that are showing some great results from what little testing and customer feedback we have received so far.
I would recommend that you use a 3200 stall in your truck, and definitely run long tube headers. I would want to use a 4.10 gear in a heavy truck like that, but a 3.73 or 3.90 would be sufficient. With that said and the heads and intake you plan on using, I would suggest this cam from the "SNS" series:
273/281@.006"
223/231@.050"
147/154@.200"
110LSA 108ICL 112ECL
223/231 .610"/.617"

400rw is easy with an LS and a medium grind cam. call Thunder Racing and see what they would recommend. Very good customer service and nice power under the curve with their cams. And couple it with either a FAST 102 or 92. Your choice. 102 has crazy throttle response and independent, portable, removable runners. The 92 has a shell which creates the individual runners, but are not removable and may be a little shorter. They both have their advantages.
But, if you're gonna run a choppy cam or go turbo, you could probably run the Edelbrock Vic Jr single plane intake. The single planes don't like the mild cams much.

6.0
fast 92/92 or ls6
TSP 228R cam @ 113 (if you want off the shelf)
but consider your drivetrain. alot of the oldschool muscle cars can really gobble up the hp. I saw a ls9 trans am barely make 400rwhp.
if you turbo later on down the road, the 228/228 cam will not be the worst (pretty good on most FI setups) although some people are not fans of the XER lobes.
It would pay to go turbo now instead of later. or procharger! then you can have headers.
