Default New to LS1 scanning

Ok guys, last year while looking to buy a f-body I purchased a cheap code reader, Actron CP9125. Obviously the more I got familiar with the car, the more advanced I want to be able to get with diagnostics as well as getting used to where the car is and was.

What do you guys recommend and what are you using, love it/hate it? I don't want to buy anything too over the top expensive, but don't want to end up with something that can only read/erase codes and tell me if the mil indicator is on or not.

Here is the link to what I currently am using:

Thanks for the input. Would like something that can not only read mvolts from the o2 sensors, but also get readings from the MAF, tps, turn off the fuel pump, etc. I don't mind paying $100-150ish if it does all the cool stuff like that. Just not that fond of the one I have now.

I currently use a Tech 2 but I also have a old Actron scanner I use for the rare occasion I am working on something else besides a Gm. Actron is a good brand so I would stick with them and just move up a couple of levels to find the scanner you want with the functions you need.

I don't think he wants to tune the pcm he just wants to be able to do regular diagnostic test and have the ability to view PIDS with a scan tool. HP Tuners cost way to much just to be used for scanning for codes and viewing a data stream.

Just a bit too much for what I intend on doing right now, but maybe a very viable option in the future. Just ended up buying a CP9575 from Actron and will see how that works out. If anybody wants a hardly used Actron CP9125 let me know. If not might just cut the obd ii cable and figure out how to make my own cable for connecting it to my laptop.

Thanks guys!

The Actron CP9575 is a good starter scanner it should do just about everything you would need for basic diagnostics.

If you have a smartphone, the app Torque Pro and a bluetooth OBD II scanner are awesome. The bluetooth plug is like $25, and it reads and clears codes, and displays live engine information on customizable screens. Google it. Pretty awesome

+1. I have it and it's great. It's also suppose to be able to data log but I haven't tried to hard to figure it out yet. I also got the shift light add-on for it and it works great, just strap you phone to your rear view mirror with 2 rubber bands.

Gonna have to check this out. Just got the Samsung GS3 like 3 days ago and if I can use it as a live scanner and diagnostic tool too then that's just badass!
