It's possible that your new thermostat is not opening fully. Of course there could be something else wrong such as a blocked passage in the radiator but I would start with the simplist and least expensive fix first. If that doesn't do it, then start looking at the rest of the system.

Forget the stock temp guage. Get another one a you'll get a true reading.

When I had my car tuned he programed my fans to come on at 170 or about that. Now my cars will not reach 205-210. The fans keep my car at about 170-180. And I still have stock thermostat. Is there any thing wrong with this.

All you have to do is get the computer programmed for the 160. Whe its programmed for it, the temp will stay there, otherwise the temp will still be somewhat normal.

No there is nothing wrong with that. You will get better performance since the temp stays down. If i could i would have my car stay at 100 degrees all day.

mine is
#1
183 on
176 off
#2
196 on
186 off

Normally i see ECT cruising speeds (45+) of 183, in traffic it goes up. At the strip it was 225F. The poor automatic i think was moving alot of heat through the rad.

i just did the HPP3 programming to turn the fan on earlier with the stock 195* and now the guage stays around the notch (185*) between 160 and 210 it used to always be at 210 when driving slow or stopped at a light....but on cold days it would stay at 185* (before HPP3).

so the guage is not accurate in terms of 210 = 210 ....but it should fluctuate to show that the car is running cooler...since during morning startup it does stay low and then work its way up to the middle...at least mine is.

if your fan is on more often (i noticed that too), then maybe your guage is really that bad.

The Hype 160 "pivots" about 177F, the ECT will
always be above 170 once warmed up, that's
just how they (mis)rate the thing. I see a low
end of 175F. I set my fans aggressively low to
get the thermostat to be in charge, FAN1 at
ON=177, OFF=176 and FAN2 ON=179, OFF=178.
So after hard running I get FAN2 for a little bit
but FAN1 only in moderate driving and no fan
if I'm rolling and get the airflow that way. Keeps
my temp range pretty tight (175 - 179F).

The '98 models have a temp gauge that is a little closer to accurate.
'99 - '02 model temp guages are a joke, nothing really more than an idiot light, the temp on them generally indicates "in the middle" of the range once engine is warmed up.
So, it's probably just that you guage is wrong.
If you can find someone with Autotap or other scanning equipment and have them read your PCM while the car is running. Chances are, you are really around the 180 deg. range.

That's what I said! Ideally once you mod, you should get 3 aftermarket guages. For my application, I got (Trans Temp, Water Temp, Elec Fuel pressure "for my nitrous')
