Default Performance question

Should I do full exhaust, heads/cam/intake , or Full exhaust, Cam and 100 shot? I was wondering if nitrous is a hassle on the streets?

Depending on your nitrous setup it's only on when you want it to be. So no hassle there. Certainly the easiest and cheapest 100hp you can get and it doesn't particularly care about the cam or exhaust.

Personally i recommend a cam, then exhaust. Nitrous if you want a kick in the pants right away.

Exhaust/heads/cam/intake will get you around 400 rwhp if not more depending on the build you choose. I would do that heads cam exhaust intake than spray later.

Of course the 100 shot will make more power than any heads you can buy. Why not not a basic nitrous kit for now, and some budget heads

A mild h/c/i would get you around 400-425rwhp on the average dyno.

You should build the tranny and rear, so it can handle that. Just my .02

What mods you do depends on your plans for the car. My car is intended for a fun ride w/ occasional trips to the track. So I am pursuing H/C/I in a mild setup to wake the car up and make it fun. Mild enough to be reliable. I am scared to mess with NOS on this car, I am saving that for my 79 Camaro.

nitrous hassle?
  • an extra 100hp is going to stress stuff. you'll likely have to upgrade fuel system to keep up and that extra hp could break stuff which will lead to more upgrades (100-150 shot was enough to kill my transmission after a while)
  • got to get the bottle up to pressure with heater or push system (push system is best but cost a few hundred)
  • got to open the bottle every time you use it (or think you may use it even if you don't, wasting a little bit of nitrous in the line)
  • got to fill the bottle (figure if a 100 shot uses just under 1lb every 10 seconds, a 10lb bottle just doesn't last as long as you'd like)
  • when the bottle is empty, your car is suddenly back to stock
  • a visible nitrous system that is armed and/or has the valve open can cause you problems with the wrong cop if you ever get pulled over

regardless, i vote nitrous/exhaust.
if you do cam, might as well do heads/intake also.
