tuner? I just bought myself a 2001 Z28, and was wondering if its worth buying a tuner for the car put an exhaust on it and was going to do cold air intake, are the tuners worth buying and witch one should I consider? thanks Todd
I agree We always tune them. Never use preset "box" tune. for $350 - $500 you can get a perfect tune from My shop or other good tuners. You will get the best results that way! Trust me you will thank me!
If you're not interested in getting a full street or dyno tune (which costs a bit more than the basic hand-held tuner), you may want to consider a mail-order tune which runs around $150. In my opinion, it may not be financially worth doing in your case if you plan on long tube headers any time in the foreseeable future (ie: wait until you get the long tubes to have the tune done).
For bolt ons a full dyno tune isn't needed IMO. A mail order tune is your best option. Not needed for just a lid or catback. But if you do the intake manifold or headers and have all of your bolt-on's done that you are gonna do I'd send your pcm to Frost. You fill out a sheet with all your mods and send it to him and he'll tune it and send your pcm back to you. It's $150 and will give you some extra horse power, clean up your gas mileage a bit, and he can tune out things like the egr, skip shift, 02 sensors ect...

I almost made the newbie mistake years ago getting a $600 Diablo Programmer. After his tune I made a solid 340rwhp and 350ft/lb through cats and a catback. With an ORY and a cutout it would have made a good 350rwhp+ and 360ft/lb+ easy.
