Default I need some heads

I have a stock LS1/T56 combo that I'm swapping into a 66 nova with a ford 8.8 rear end and 3:73 gears
The combo came out of a 02 Camaro ss so it currently has the 241 heads and ls6 intake.

I want to use the Tick performance stage 2 torquemax cam but I need some help picking out a set of heads for my budget. I was looking at the TSP 5.3 stage 2.5 heads as they seem rather popular but like most everyone else I want more power. I have a budget of $2000 set aside for heads so I would like to know if anyone knows of something in my higher budget bracket and if the power difference is worth it vs using the TSP 5.3 heads. I plan on running all the regular stuff along with the set up headers, ud pully, tune but would like to keep the ls6 intake.

In terms of the prc 225 vs the TSP 5.3 stage 2.5 heads is there a big difference in performance? Are we talking 5-10 hp etc etc?

I too am in the market for a budget head. I was looking at the PRC Stage 1.0 LS6 @ $1200 or PRC Stage 2.5 5.3L @ $1310 to complement my current cam/bolt-on/4000 stall set up. After a long talk with TS for only $300 more (base price) the PRC as-cast 225 would give more room to grow in the furture. Still works good with LS6 intake with plenty of P/V clearance for cam upgrade.

My question is how well will a set of ported AI ported 243 stack up against say some trickflow genx 220 cast or a set of prc 225 as cast? They all run around the in terms of cost but do any of them have a distinct performance advantage over the other etc

A used set of 317 heads is about 200 dollars and most machine shops can do a valve job, pocket port and mill to 65cc for around 400 dollars. With spring kit you should be able to have a good performance head for under a 1000 bucks. Buy some used 799 castings for around 450 - 500 dollars and they wont need to be milled or you can mill them for increased compression. The 317 head though flows pretty much the same as a 243 or 799 casting the only major difference is the larger chambers.

The PRC 225 as cast should perform somewhere around a ported 243 and can be worked over later down the road should you ever need it. So with your budget I would pick those up and a set of BTR platinum then call it a day.

PRC As cast all the way! I picked up right at 30rwhp over my stock 243s with them. Can't beat that for the money if you ask me.
