factory limiter is 6250 rpm. To get the best performance shift as close as possible to that limiter without hitting it. Factory tachs after '98 read kind of slow, so your 6000 rpm reading on the tach is probably more like 6150 rpm actual.

A long time ago someone very savvy with the Ls1's told me this method according to our slow *** Tach...pay attention..
1st-2nd-shift at 5,500rpm on STOCK tach
2-3-5,700rpm on stock tach
3-4-6,000rpm on stock tach....
This should get you just as close to rev limit without smacking it.
The BEST solution is to go get a small shiftlight(i prefer Harlan's) and set it to 5,800....shift when it comes on, and go!!! no more watching a tach, just concentrating on driving....
Hope this helps....remember these only apply in a all out race(drag strip) application when the tach is REALLY falling behind.
