Unless you want to bracket race, then get an auto for better consitancy.

For fun and cool factor... go with a manual..

If you're a hardcore track guy, and you want to be really consistent.. go with the auto..

I have an auto. Its my daily driver. I didn't want to deal with a manual in stop-and-go traffic. Its all up to personal preference. Get whichever one you feel more comfortable using.

I've driven alot of manual cars, and my dad would disown me if I bought an automatic sportscar

But driving on the track and on the street is totally different.. No need to speed shift in regular traffic.. Just take it easy and go with the flow.

Manuals are also alot harder on drivetrain components, so if you plan on going big, you better have alot of $ to replace the rearend, driveshaft, and torque arm.

imo, a manual is the best way to go, if you want fun to drive on the street you got it and if you decide to go all out race its easier to swap in a turbo 350/400 when the t-56 gives out. thats my plans.

I got my car used and just got whichever transmission happened to be in a car that had everything else I wanted, as well as a good price, but am glad that it was an auto.

Auto Advantages:
Torque converter greatly increases performance.
Usually quicker. (with good gearing, no 2.73's, and ESPECIALLY with stall)
Don't have to worry about breaking the rear nearly as easily.
Converter is cheaper than a good clutch (which is also necessary for any real power/strip time) and has stated performance increase.

Manual Advantages:
Funner/more involving to drive.
Better highway mileage.
Most people think your car is faster than if you had an automatic. (People always think if my car was M6 it's be a lot faster )

good clutches dont cost nearly as much as a good converter and if you go good converter your tranny usually goes out fairly soon if you do any amount of racing with it from what i have seen. like i said, if you dont plan on big converter and you do alot of street driving in traffic, get a auto, if not go manual.

I consider the $520 (or less) TCI SSF3500 a good converter. Add about $280 or so for a cooler, shift kit, and bigger pan and i think that is lower or at least comparable to a new clutch.......one of my fav points is that a converter takes 0.5 seconds off the quarter mile Also, it's easier on the rear end i don't have $2k+ for a 12 bolt

what im sayin is when i see "fast" cars that are auto im just turned off be that.. manual is fun ..and it isnt hard in traffic you just get used to it.. good luck with w/e u get.. have fun with it and post sum pics..lol

I'm going to take some time and think about it. You guys with the A4 where some of you best races against the M6 or the same drivetrain let me know.

ok well guess it depends on the parts. i consider my spec stage 4 a good clutch that i paid 400 bucks for new and the yank converter that cost almost a grand. that is what i was comparing. it all changes with parts. and for what its worth i lost .6 off my times with a clutch and nittos. not bad for a m6 ehh.

Yeah, I'd take 0.6 reduction!
