I couldn't find a $3billion helmet, nor could I afford one, so I settled for the $250 helmet.

I got a nice HJC helmet from a motorcycle shop for $20. It had some minor scratches in it.

But it matched my 2 wheeler pretty good and I went with it.

I wouldn't look at the $250-$300 helmet and match the price to the speed of your car... I'd match the price to the value of your skull. Impacting something at over 100mph will **** you up nicely so I'd say use all the protection you can find.

The TK-7 has all the impact resistance of the $300 helmets at the bike shop I was in. Those more exspensive helmets offer features like less weight, wind noise and wind resistance and better breathibility. Features that don't mean squat from inside the cockpit of a car.

I agree for the most part.

Don't forget:All helmets carrying the DOT and SNELL ratings meet the same MINIMUM requirements. This does not mean that they all protect as well.S ome will go above and beyond requirements while other will just barely make the cut.

If you want the ultimate proof of impact resistance look at what people who do this for a living use. Simpson is always on the head of someone in pro drag racing. For both cars and Motorcycles. ARAI,Shoei,AGV,Suomy are on the heads of some of the best motorcycle riders in the world. Yes, sponsorships play some small part here. However, these guys do know they will be using these safety items at some point and they want them to work.

Buy what you feel comfortable buying. I'll continue buying top tier safety equipment.

I bought myself a KBC TK-7 because I only go to the track once in awhile, and just need a basic DOT/Snell helmet to run. Of course, if I was a die-hard drag racer with an all-out race car, of course, I would've bought something a lot more expensive with flame retardant materials and such to protect my cranium.
