I just went to the local cycle shop and got a sport bike helmet with some cool graphics for $140. Just say you want to spend around $100-$120. These shops are just like car dealers for their bikes an accesorries. They can come down in prices, so don't just go in saying you can spend up to $200.

NEED SA2000 rating. The cheapest option to my knowledge is the RCI unit at $139 (that's what I have). Thunder racing used to have them at that price plus they used to do 10% off on them from time to time, so if you catch one, that would come down to 125 bucks. I just checked their web site, and somehow SA2000 units are now $250. You may try to call them.
You may try to snick in with an SA95/M2000 motorcycle helmet, which can be had for as low as $40 (but does not provide adequate fire protection), but then again you may try to snick in without a helmet at all...

Yeah a helmet is necessary at the track
I went my first time and did under 14 seconds so I have to wear one.
It is safer and all but I have not gotten a helmet yet and want to go back and try to get better times.

I have an Arai Haga rep.Arai in my opinon makes the best helmets in the world. That's why I keep buying them.I use it when I ride/race my motorcycle and car.
It costs about $500,because it's only available at dealers now.
The big reason the Arai (and Shoei,Simpson, etc.) is so expensive is because of weight, comfort, and quality of assembly and materials.
Most people don't place much importance on comfort or weight when they only have it on for a few minutes at a time.

I'm about to order a better helmet and will shell out the extra $$ for one with a nomex liner- all these $100-120 helmets are for morotcycles and the liner is not flame retardant. It scares the sh#* out of me to think what would happen in a fire with a bike helmet.
Get a $100 helmet for a $100 head.
