Smog legal mods? (california) need some help making my list
1998 t/a with ws6 hood. future plans is eventually to s/c it but that is years from now (2-3+ years)
auto w/ stock rear (both will be modded/change after bolt ons are done)
my goals are to get as much power as possible while still be able to smog. pass visual and sniffer. I know smog is only every 2 years but im more concerned with getting sent to state ref so id like all mods to be compliant.
heres what i had found so far.
exhaust:
**shorty headers
(pacesetter? but cant seem to find a vendor) any other shorty w/ carb #?
**The Y
im planning to keep the stock pipe all the way to the cat (and keep stock cat) then go to a true dual system w/ x pipe) <-- this will be custom and should be allowed to be modified legally.
if im not mistaken non-ws6 t/a used a 2.5" pipe pre cat aswell?
the true dual will be 2.5" so it should be sufficient.
im still considering swapping in a high flow cat but not sure if the gain is worth it over factory?
Intake:
ls6 intake w/ egr provision drilled and tap. (will this be allowed?)
if not then my next option is fast 92 w/ carb number.
btw anyone know why the carb number d279-9 doesnt exist when i looked at the carb eo checker.
trottle body:
..not too sure here if I must remain stock or are aftermarket allowed? any thoughts? would it be pointless to run fast 92 if i cant use aftermarket throttle body?
lids:
are slp lids smog legal? couldnt find info on this. they look stockish but the slp trows it off.
lower intake. is there a difference between the t/a lower intake vs ws6?
last owner swap the hood and not sure what intake I have. how can I tell
tune...
are there any other mods that I should do?
after all that cams... but this I will look after the mods are all done.
also will consider heads.. but I havent looked for those yet.
any inputs please.
thanks
