My power goal is anywhere from 400-450 to the wheels, though I realize I'm pretty far away from that though with the limited mods I have now.

I've also read a ton of threads about having to rebuild the rear end when you get up into the higher horsepower numbers, but as I said I realize I'm pretty far away from that point right now.

but if you got the coin you mine as well have a reputable shop rebuild it since you got to pull it for the stall anyway.

if you don't rebuild the transmission I would have it freshened up, new fluid with filter and bigger pan because the stall increases transmission heat and the bigger pan will help cool it along with a transmission cooler.
Appreciate the tips man, my only problem is I lack a reputable shop to go to at the moment. Being in a military town, there are plenty of "speed" shops around here that will take your money and give you crap service and products in return. Being in the military, a bunch of guys I know are in to cars, but they all recommend different places. So, my dilemma is finding a shop that I trust to actually build the stuff I want.

I wish I could do some of these things on my own, but I lack the necessary space and tools, plus a lot of the mechanical knowledge to do it right.

Seems the general consensus is a stall with added cooling for the trans then? I guess my next question (as before, excuse my noobness, as this question might have been answered) is whether this will actually increase my HP, or simply increase the amount of usable HP that I can tap into?

Building takes time and money. What you could do is build in this order:

Suspension
Tires
Trans
Rear end
Engine

Or do what you think is right. Just read up on some old threads pick the people you trust on here and dive in. Plenty of people to help good luck.

Stall doesn't add hp it eats hp. But keeps you in your power band. If you do stall first take it slow to get used to the new mod. Anytime you mod your car take it slow for a while until you get used to it, if not then you'll end up in the ditch.

Think I got what you are saying, the stall simply keeps rps/engine speed up into the area where you can actually tap into the power more effectively. Sound about right?

Yea sorta, lol put it to you this way. Say you have a 4000 stall, if you slam tje gas pedal to the floor from a dead stop (flashing the stall) then your rpms will damn near jump up to 4000rpms from the idling rpms. Obviously when you are cruising it won't be at 4000 rpms or higher all the time.

yes a stall in addition to launching harder will keep you in your power band longer. its a must for auto cars to maximize your setup.

with a quality TC power loss will be minimal, my vig. has no dead spots. as a matter fact its strong everywhere.

For sure, different stalls eat different lvl of hp. Im think of getting a new one BC mine is old and i think its too loose. So i hear TCI makes great stalls so i will be going with them this time around.

a low quality stall isnt worth it. i tried that and i did lose a decent amount of power. what a difference now.

Lol at least your closer to it running perfect! Ill have to look into the stall. Isn't there something you can do to your existing stall to tighten it back up? I heard something about this but can't put a name on it.

i never heard about that unless theres something wrong with it.

i know when my trans went they had to clean up my TC before reinstalling it.

a reputable TC manufacturer will usually back up their warranty also. my shop buys a ton of them so im good to go. they offer a restall at no charge within a certain time period though you pay for labor of course lol.
