Okay stupid question to most of you all I am sure; but I had a DI tell me one time the only stupid question is the question you didn't ask....I have a 5.3 out of a 08 pickup that i want to swap in to a 61 GMC. When searching for parts is this motor considered an LS1??? If it makes a difference this engine has the 706 heads. Go ahead and laugh now!!!!

It's a LS family engine, but with newer gen internals, it uses a different crank reluctor wheel, one bolt cam gear, different studs for the heads, comes with floating pins and stronger rods.

So is it safe for me to assume that any parts (heads, intakes, ect...) that are listed for an LS1 will fit my 5.3?

Your DI was a wise individual (and probably loud too, lol), intake manifolds, headers, and most bolt on parts listed as "LS1" will fit. Electronic components is where yours will differ from an LS1. Most heads will fit as long as they are designed for a 3.78 bore and not a 3.898. Are you planning to run this motor as EFI or carb?

I was planning to use the Holley HP EFI. This will be backed up by a T56 6 spd tranny. I am also looking at stroking this motor. Any suggestions on a kit? I am also looking for at an intake, suggestions there? Thanks in advance.

If you're thinking about stroking, you can get 4" rotatings assemblies but will need clearancing
As for intake, if the truck intake doesn't clear the hood, you could use a stock ls1-6, it will bolt right on
