Default Is my Reverse lockout solenoid bad? No code is being thrown.

So I'm having trouble with my reverse lockout solenoid (T56), and there's no code saying anything is wrong.

Basically while at speed I can sometimes accidentally slip into reverse effortlessly instead of 5th. This obviously produces a terrible grinding sound. It's not just a new-ish manual driver mistake either, my buddy who's been driving manual for 12 years managed to do it twice.
Now, sometimes it works (or I'm just carefully shifting). I've sat with the car off and managed to be locked out while upshifting just too not have it work the next time I try it.

Also, when going into reverse sometimes I REALLY have to fight it to get it in, like I have to overcome a hill so to speak. Sometimes it goes in effortlessly.

If I'm never throwing a code, do you think this is the solenoid? Or is it a fuse? Or am I just screwed?

The solenoid works by preventing engagement over 3 mph or something like that, so if you can engage at speed, yes, it's not working. The difficult engagement at rest is the flip side of the same problem.

Didn't you start a topic on this like 3 weeks ago?

Have you done any testing? Swapped the solenoid? Followed anyone's advice?

I had this problem, but it wouldn't let me in reverse at any speed. Never threw a code. Ended up just replacing the solenoid and problem was fixed. Pretty sure the actual solenoids are dirt cheap too.

If you want to test check to see if the actual solenoid is getting correct voltage.

These are just electromagnetic plungers and they are known to stick from time-to-time. If one is mechanically sticking on you, it could be fine electrically and the car's systems would have no way of knowing that anything is wrong. For these electro-mechanical parts, you have to rely on the computer located between the driver's ears.

Generally they fail in the locked position, it requires power to unlock. With the car off see if you can get it into reverse with no resistance. It may be a short or bad solenoid, depending on if you can get into reverse with no effort and the car off
