Default In a bind.. tell me what you would do...

I'm in a pretty jacked up mood and situation..

I purchased my Camaro while in Hawaii... NO EMISSIONS in Hawaii.. just safety checks.. So what did I do.. I went all out.. heads, cam, lt's, no air or egr.

Not really thinking that far ahead. New Navy policy.. if you're on the west coast, then you're staying on the west coast. So from Hawaii.. I'm going to San Diego.. CA.. the most emission strict state there is..

So I'm in a bind.. I was so pissed this morning that I was contemplating just selling the Camaro and getting a Cobra when I got to CA. I don't want to get rid of the car but that really seems like my only option at this point.

Or should I start, swapping out my current mods for emissions legal stuff and just go with a smaller cam and a big shot of nitrous?

Lemme know what you think?

It's up to you, but if you decide to sell off parts, I'm going to be in the market for heads and a cam comparable to what you're running! Let me know. I'll be able to afford it when i get my SRB (I'm navy too) on July 1st.

he's gotta swap the cam and full exhaust, not to mention changing the PCM settings. who wants to do that every two years. in cali you either go all the way smog legal or all the way smog illegal and find ways around it.

First off check the Cali motor vehicle regs and
see what you can do about keeping Hawaii or
military plates, as a "temporary" resident in the
military you may have some inspection slack the
rest of the serfs don't. Or not.

Failing that, consider getting yourself an "address"
in the southwest corner of Nevada, it's a short
(in California commute terms) drive to Laughlin
and some people work in SD and make that drive
so you "could" be legit, have an address there and
"crash in San Diego on somebody's spare bed"
Might have positive tax consequences too.

Yeah, try keeping ur residence in Hawii. I know Air Force people can do that. I dont know about the Navy, but I would think it might be the same. Either way, I hope it works out for ya.

Not totaly correct. I spent a few years as am MA in the Navy, now I'm an AE in the Navy.

You have only 2 choices.
1. When you go to cali try and find a place that you can get hooked up with inspection.(hard to do these days)
2. What is your home of record? You can have your vehicle registered there, without them ever seeing it. If you are military, dont live in your home of record state, and have your vehicle registered there you are EXEMPT from emitions till you move back.

I went with choice 2 myself, cuz back in Tx my uncle does inspections so i have a hook up.

Yea.. I live in Mississippi..

So upon leaving Hawaii.. I'm gonna head home for a short vacation register the car there, and then head back out to CA. All I have to pass in MS is just a regular safety inspection.. Easy as can be..

I believe all is well on the home front..

Request an extension of tour in Hawai. Works great if you have an MOS thats in demand.

Tried that.. I was given the choice of a ship out of Washington State or go to sunny San Diego.. The choice was pretty easy I'd say.

I've calmed down a bit and started to think clearly again..
