Lake Pipes?
When I bought my '98 Z28 a couple of months ago I loved the way it sounded and figured that the prior owner had put a cat back system on it. Well, I crawled under it this past weekend and found out that there is no muffler on the car! It looks like there is a pipe welded in place of the muffler. It sounds great, but I was wondering if there are any performance pluses or minuses with not having a muffler?

Well, unless it sits inside the pipe, there's no muffler there. the only place that the stock system looks like it's been messed with is where the muffler was.

Where the stock muffler is, the Loudmouth has nothing. The resonator is underneath the car in the I-pipe, around the back-right passenger seat. There wouldnt be a bullet where the stock muffler is if its the Loudmouth.
Also, you bought the car and didnt even check out the exhaust?

With the correct muffler you could probably make a couple more hp. The effects of a straight pipe exhaust flow can also play with the positioning of the powerband a bit. Exhaust note is a personal thing. If you like it, keep it. As far as power goes, you're in a good place.

I like it. so I guess I won't mess with it.
As far as buying a car "without checking the exhaust first", I bought it from a dealer and wasn't worried about it. I'd just take it back if there was an issue!
