Default Gas Mileage

Ok, my car came rated as 21 mpg city/ 28 mpg city highway. I didn't expect nearly that high on the highway but I've heard people talk about still getting that high so I was wondering.

I've been getting 19 mpg city on a stock 00 SS, but that's obvious because I don't really know how to coax mileage out of a manual yet. But I just took a 300 mile road trip and ended up getting 24 mpg on it. I'm pretty happy with that but just figured I'd check to see what everyone here thought. What are you experiences with mileage, and if it is a bit low what could be causing it?

what speed were you cruising at? Did you do alot of passing or speed bursts? Even tire PSI can affect the average by 1-2 mpg.

Most stock 6-speeds should be able to nail down 28-30 mpg no problem, cruising around 70 mph. On the Hot Rod Power Tour a week ago, I averaged 30-31 mph in my 02 SS 6-spd, and that is with heads/cam/bolt-ons. I was pleasantly surprised!

I had the thing on cruise at 75 mph the entire way. And I wasn't doing any passing, no excessive fun on the Interstate either. So what, I look on the door panel to find the recommended psi for the tires, correct?

Edit: My door says 30 psi for the tires. So is that what I want them at, I still have Eagle F1 stock tires on it.

Hi it's not good for the motor to run at the same constant speed continuosly' you should vary the speed by a few mph.

I would think that if that's true at all, it just might be that you shouldn't run the RPMs at the same for a long time, speed shouldn't be any part of it. But don't know if I believe either.

Something must be wrong with my car then, the best I've ever gotten with all highway driving was 23 mpg. That was with the cruise set at 75 mph and in sixth gear.

That's why I'm somewhat wondering why mine is low, I plan on checking the tire pressure as soon as I can. But I don't think it would be that because the rear tires were just put on it and I had the fronts balanced too, figured that would mean Discount Tire would have checked the tire pressure for me.

waaayyyyyy too many factors for this one....
things that can effect mpg.
traffic
hills
turns
air temp
humidity
weather
1 idiot cutting you off can wreck your mgp on a trip.
air dencity
altitude..
drafting abillaty...lol(it is funny but it is also true... drafting big trucks can save ALOT of gas)(but they dont like it and if you **** off a truck driver you wont be happy long)lol

Drove from Reno, NV to Springfield, MO and got anywhere from 28-31, I found out what my mpg was each time I stopped.

I got 500 MPG on one tank on my way back from California doing about 80 MPH.
+-5mph here and there. Just had the oil changed about ten minutes before I left with Mobile1. Nice clean air filter too.

That was the only time I really cared about noticing how much MPG I get. No trips like that for a while, work and all.

umm :BS: hehe thats impossibe to get 500MPG on any car right now.. I think that you meant you got 500 miles to the TANK.. Not Miles Per Gallon.

But that is kewl.. 500/16.9 = 29.585 Miles per gallon assuming you used the whole tank..

See my chart above for a good way to get the average..
