You can build a 5.3 to make 600 crank hp NA, but its going to be a high compression, high RPM engine that will not take well to boost, you will be changing around a lot of things to add boost reliably.
So the question is do you want to build an expensive NA high revving 5.3 that makes 600hp or do you want to build a higher hp TT 5.3L that wont make a lot of hp NA.

N/A means naturally aspirated, as in, it breathes through a vacuum against Earth's atmospheric pressure.

In other words, no Turbo/Super (and I believe no Nitrous because that is chemical induction. I could be wrong, though.)

NA = naturally aspirated, meaning it breaths on its own, no forced induction (turbo, supercharger, nitrous).
You can't build a 600hp NA LS-5.3L that you can then turbocharge, it will likely blow up when adding boost. If you want to make big hp using forced induction on that engine then you need to build it for forced induction from the start, not NA power. That means lower compression, and a much less aggressive cam. A smaller displacement LS like the 5.3 will need some higher dollar parts, high compression and high rpms to make 600hp NA since its on the smaller displacement side of things with the LSx family. So its going to be much more strained than something like a 7L LSx making the same power.
If you do not understand what Im saying then you need to do some serious research before trying to build an engine, and ultimately wasting money because it blows up after a few dyno pulls.

That is very solid advice JD, even to a newbie like me. Trying to figure out which LS engine to put in a '68 Camaro now myself!

Get on Amazon, there are tons of books on how to modify these engines, quit "bench racing" and start reading. Getting to the 5-600 hp level is just the begining, once you get there all the drive train needs to be up graded, trans, clutch , drive shaft, axles and differential, etc, etc. The 'no seeums" will eat your lunch...
