Default Knocking noise

I just bought a 2001 camaro ss ls1 with 82,000 miles. Drove it over an hour home with no problems sounded good. Got home took it for a spin dumped the clutch to spin the tires a little then car started stalled out 2 or 3 times after that with clutch pressed in. Now today I hear a knocking noise. Guy said something wrong with parking brake. Was wondering what that noise can be? Lifters? Also changed oil and oil filter after hearing noise and saw no signs of metal. Thank you

There could be any factors to that.. 1st check your plugs and wires make sure they are not aftermarket or lose. The next thing I would check would be your air intake maf sensor... those are the easy things... you could have knock something lose dumpin the clutch like that...

My car sounds terrible when it's cold. The "knock" or piston slap is terrible. It's one of those things where I almost don't want people to see me in it or hear it when it's cold lol but it stops when it gets warm. Not sure if temp has any change with the sound. Also did it act funny when you dumped the clutch with your ASR button on? My car will almost die and try to stall if I dump the clutch without turning my ASR off

My car has 167,000 hard miles and the remedy to that noise at start up is 0-40W or 0-30W Mobile 1 European car formula. Tried many oils and the car likes this one. Also doesn't drink oil other oils it drank a quart every 3,000 miles if pushed. Been using this oil for about 40,000 miles and she is quiet.

I used 0-30 GC Euro spec for a long time and I didn't see any improvement in piston slap. It's pretty much the same whatever oil I use. Also my car has always used a quart every 1500-2000 miles. Use of the 0-30 synthetic may have helped it toward the higher end of that spectrum, but not enough to make a significant difference. 156k now.

Same here. My '02 had the slap, only at very specific periods during warm-up though, and only in certain ambient temps. Changing oil grade or brand did nothing for it, including M1 0w40 (which is my go-to oil for all LS1s since about 2004 or so.)

If the OP has a knock that only developed immediately after some abusive driving, then my guess is that it's probably not piston slap.

That very well may be the case. I was just thinking that since he just drove it home and then heard it the next day it may not have been noticeable since it was warm on the way home. Just throwing out some suggestions because lord knows I wanted to puke the first couple of times I heard my car at cold start. Just bought a toy and now it's messed up is all I could think about lol

Believe it or not it could be the Emissions hose. I remember the first week I bought the car I wanted to see how it pulled versus my old 97 LT1 I had prior to the LS1. I pushed it on an empty area next thing I know I hear a bad slap/knock sound. I was thinking WTF I blew the engine. Go home my brother and I listen to it and we both swear the sound was coming from the top center of the engine. Popped of the Valve covers everything was to spec. I later found out the Hooker Long Tubes still had emission crap hooked up. It ended up being the hose blowing out. I notice no more ticking when cold which was from this hose slowly falling apart or maybe it was the oil as well but did those two things the same time.

You do have the LS6 intake though since 2001-2002 was different.
