Question Intake questions

I have a 2000 Camero LS1. I would like to swap out the intake to get more hp/performance. I heard that the (OEM) LS6 intake is better. This seems like an easy part to find used, and would probably be cheaper than buying a new after market intake.

If I get a used LS6 intake, will I need to replace anything else?
Will my stock throttle body fit/work on the LS6 intake?

Read here.

Just take extra care regarding the oil pressure sending unit at the back of the intake... or you will be buying a new one. It's a bit flimsy.

Default 90 mm LS-1/2

Hi, I can supply the 90 mm LS-1/2 "Cath" USED intake with the 90 mm DBC air door conversion kit.
All OEM "90" are DBW, your LS-1 78mm is cable ?

Yes, mine has a cable. I'm not sure what size (mm) it is.

So, it sounds like I would have to replace the throttle body too. Is that right?

You do not need a different throttle body to run a Ls6 intake.

No you do not....2000-2002 LS1 F-Body vehicles all have the same stock throttle body. 78mm.

2001 & 2002 F body vehicles came with the LS6 intake from the factory, along with the 78mm TB. You will be fine.

That sounds great! I'll be looking for an LS6 intake, then. Thanks everyone!

Default LS-2 + 90mm Air Door

Hi, YOU will pay MORE for a 78mm Z-06 intake.

The LS-2/90mm will make more power AND cost less, complete bit of kit.

Ok, I guess I should have asked before. Where do you find the LS6 intake? What engine/vehicle/year?

What engine/vehicle has the LS-2 intake?

One more question. If I go with forced induction later on, will swapping the intake make much of a difference?

Wow! $800 for a new one. No thanks. I'll look for a junker. I don't mind doing a little cleaning/polishing.

So, the GTO has the LS2? I'll keep an eye out, but those are rare.

The early run of the GTO was the 5.7 LS1 and I believe it was an LS6 intake but not sure.

Default LS-2 Intake (USED)

Hi Nator, my fingers are sore from "typing", finding the E-BAY average price of $250.00.
MUCH better than "other" pains (body parts) in reference to the $850.00 ???

I have sold this item for $200.00, the LS-2 intake (used)

The NEW Dorman LS-2 is $315.00 ???

I was under the impression that the LS2 intake showed no gains over the LS6. Maybe even a bit of loss when comparing stock for stock. If ported, the LS2 showed minor gains. I'm not doubting Lance at all, I'm just passing along what I've seen or read over the years. Also, correct me if im wrong, but I belive the LS2 intake was designed for a "Drive By Wire" throttle body. There was a bracket you can buy (don't remember the company) that provided a place to mount the cable drive mechanism and allow DBW use. Just throwing this info out there for discussions sake. Either should be a good budget upgrade. Depending on your future mods (heads, cam) you might want to consider saving up a bit more coin for a Fast Intake off the classifieds. Then again it's always easier for me to spend someone else's money lol. Good luck.

I've read countless times that the LS6 intakes flows better than the LS2. I'd be shocked to learn otherwise

Absolutely agree. I though the whole "which is better..LS2/LS6" intake discussion was settled a while back. Seems the LS2 always fell short compared to the LS6 on many occasions.

I'm not sure about the heads/cam swap. I know a cam would help, but I was thinking Pro-Charger further down the road. If I go with a Pro-Charger, would the intake really matter?
