Default Is a dd/drag setup possible?

Hello all! I was just curious for the sake of a 98 z28 what would be a good cam kit rated around 500rwhp?

I think I have a pretty good idea what heads, exhaust, and intake I'm going to run now I'm just trying to pick a reasonable kit and gain a further understanding of how to properly match the parts for a decent drag car that will be a dd.

I would much prefer to keep a good balance between torque and hp. I guess I'm looking for more power on the low end but I plan to go forced induction eventually so I plan to work my way towards forged internals.

Tldr: 98 z28 ls1 stock to drag/dd hp goal 500rwhp or whatever is possible with the stock differential na with plans to go fi. Looking to go fast on stock internals for now

Correct me if I'm wrong, you're wanting a 500whp 346ci LS1 n/a drag car that's also a daily driver, with the stock rear end?

I'm sorry I should reiterate. I expect to be around 440rwhp at the most I don't exactly have a large budget right now so I plan to use the stock 10 bolt axle and the Eaton or auburn that's it has I'm not sure what it has yet. Right now. I'd say my max budget is around 3500$ I'm not really sure if I will put more than 5k into anything outside of maintenance

Eventually I'd like to step up the motor to 500 if it can handle it. I'm certain the transmission may but the differential probably won't.

I'm really just trying to get as much as I can from the stock shortblock while retaining the ability to dd and be an absolute beast in a dig. I'm not really going to autocross and time at the drag strip will be minimal right now so maybe I should say street/dd more than drag

I plan to do full bolt ons of course. a Ls6 head and maybe even a ported high flow oil pump, 3600-3800 stall, dif gears, new to the ls platform and the options are overwhelming if you aren't familiar

Some ported LS6 heads with a moderate size cam should get you around that 440 mark. If you have the LS1 intake then switch to either the LS6 or Fast intake

Any suggestions for brands? I'm still trying to learn about the cam specs due to the fact that if I blindly go by old posts sometimes kits aren't being made anymore or I have to find a used cam. Figured 440 is a better goal with keeping most of the stock components (trans, driveshaft, diff)

I'm just going to go intake/exhaust then the rest of the bolt on for 3-6 months and attend some cars and coffee in my area and get a fell for some other setups before I get too carried away. I'd rather invest more in a low mile ws6 than a 160k 98 z28 but for now I'm just happy to have my first fast car

I hear ya man. Places like Cam Motion, Texas Speed, and WS6 Store are good places to start.

Titan4 from Cam Motion and a nice tight 3600 stall would be a great driving combo.

I know I'm always on here mentioning Advanced Induction lol, but if your in the market for ported LS6 heads they are definitely worth a look. Made excellent power and Phil is a great guy. Cam wise, that Titan 4 mentioned above is proven and pretty awesome. Really can't go wrong with Cam Motion in any way. My new cam, soon to be ordered, was custom spec'd by Kip and should rip. Good luck.

$2700 will buy you an On3 A/C retaining turbo setup and that includes the tubular K-member. 500whp can be done on a 100% stock long block and it will run/drive like stock.

This, plus a fuel pump and you would be very happy

Fuel pump and injectors would also have to be done for a 500whp N/A setup, so I didn't bother factoring them in. They would need to be done either way.

I'd like to know where you saw that. The only kit I can find on their website, is the twin turbo kit for $4k.

There's a tremendous amount of subjectivity when it comes to what terms like 'drivability' and 'beast' mean to a particular individual. Having said that, these 2 things -- "...retaining the ability to dd and be an absolute beast in a dig." rarely go together.

For $3500, do a converter, exhaust, nitrous kit, and spare wheels with sticky tires, then save the rest an put it towards a rear when you have the money. Drives like stock for daily use and power when you want it for the track.

This will be your best bet for a "beast" daily driver.
