Default How Fast is an rx7

there was a guy 2night who wanted to race me w/ his rx7. I am pretty sure it was a twin turbo but i dont know what other mods he has if any. I have a friend who can probably list some of them if he has any. But at this point basically what are my chances with a stock twin turbo rx7. from a roll? from 20? and from 60?

he wouldnt run form 60 but he said if we went from a roll it would have to be from 20.

I will race him regardless but i just want to kinda know what to expect.

You will beat a stock RX7 (any year, even the '93-'95 twin turbos) in any straight line race, from a dead dig, from a roll, basically anywhere.
A modded one is a different story and many of them are modded so be careful.

Being an automatic without a stall, I would not race him from a roll, especially at 20. You'll probably drop right into a dead zone. 2nd gear at 20 mph...ouch

Tell him to run you from a dig like a real man

Actually, 20 mph roll on an auto is pretty strong. You hit first gear up to ~30 mph if you slam the pedal down. The dead zone is at 35-55 mph, depending on your gearing, what gear you are in, if you are on a hill and how quickly you floor it to initiate the downshift because if you catch second below ~60 you won't be going anywhere exceptionally quick on a stock stalled car. BTW, from about 60-70 is alright too because you hit the top of second gear

They ran 14.0 stock but pulled a .96 on the skid pan. They are light and if they are tweaked they can boogey. I have seen some run 12's with upgraded pulleys, exhaust and chip.

Get you some sticky tires.. and just hope that it really isn't modded.

But on the other hand, there's no shame in losing to a RX7.. Those cars can be crazy fast..

Thumbs up

I have a '94 RX7. It ran 14.1 at 99 MPH bone stock (very warm weather on the original tires.) After a boost controller, exhaust, induction, and fuel controller it ran 12.96 at 109 MPH (again, very warm weather on the original tires.)

My RX7 is MILDLY modded and will give most bolt-on LS1s a run for the money in the 1/4. Once the speeds get really fast (say, above 130) aerodynamics start coming into play in a major way. That's where this car really shines. 180 MPH is no problem in my RX7 and it's been to 188.

lol, i wonder why he didnt want to run from 60 then. He has only had it a few days i guess he didnt know. I was expecting him to run out of motor. he wont say any mods but it looks awesome. its hard to believe he doesnt have a lot done to it because he has at least 10,000 im mods to make it look good. however he decided he only wanted to race for $100 which i had rather spend on mods. kinda makes me wonder if he can run.

Yeah, he probably doesn't know any better. He would be wiser to race you from, say, 60-140 rather than 20-100. They are VERY slick little cars aerodymically.

i very much doubt your rx7 that traps 109 in the 1/4 can pull 188mph. infact, id bet my life on it that your only mods being bc, exhaust, intake and fuel controller you couldnt hit more then 165.

I don't doubt him, but I'd think he would need more mods and tuning than that to achieve a 30 m.p.h. increase over stock, because the '93-'95 RX7's topped out at 158 with the manuals.

Doubt away! If you're ever in Troy, AL, bring some cash (hey, make it worth my risk) and some brass ***** and we'll strap you in the right seat for a little test drive.

Sounds like magazine info to me. Stock RX7s had no problem with 165. I should know, I've had two of them.
