Default Transmission Cooler

2000 z28 camaro with a 6.0 swap. A mechanic told me that he seen a small transmission cooler on my car. My question is, if my car only has the stock cooler is it on the inside? Or is it like bolted in front of something where it's visible?

I'm trying to determine if my car already had an aftermarket trans cooler put on it by a previous owner, so i know whether to get one or not.

Thanks guys.

Some of those older Z28's had a water-oil sandwich engine oil cooler between the filter and the block,
its easiest to find as a part for the Caprice Police cars of similar vintage... The Caprice cop cars also had a
trans cooler about 1/2 the size of the radiator.

IMHO ,, local thermostat and a 20 pass,, no such thing as an overcooled automatic..

So, even though it's visible on the outside it may or may not be a stock cooler on a 2000 z28? Maybe I should get the biggest one I can fit and put it where the other one currently is?

Also, what is "local thermostat and 20 pass" ?

Thanks for the help guys.

Look at your radiator if you see two 3/ 8 tubing lines running to it on the passenger side it is your Trans Cooler, sometimes folks will 'T" into these lines and install a aftermarket cooler especially if they are running a "Looser" converter...

No, pdxmotorhead's post above doesn't really have anything to do with your specific/original question.

There was no visible stock trans cooler on the outside of any LS1 F-body automatic car. As 98CayenneT/A correctly posted above, the stock cooler is located inside the radiator tank (passenger side). If you can see a trans cooler on the outside, it's not stock.
