Good day
I'm looking for recipes for 450whp and would like to have great driveability on street , no track or road race events just a fairweather driver . stock car so far , I have a kooks y coming and magnaflo cat back . Will speed engineering headers work with looks y?
my budget will be 10000 CAD . Also any reputable shops in Edmonton area , I built an 88 and came to conclusion that shops locally are very weak , gore you and cant follow through.

My set up is in your range.
SSRA scoop
FTP 98mm lid
85 mm Delphi MAF
92mm Holley throttle body
90mm Dorman LS2 intake
42 lb injectors
25% underdrive pulley
Texas speed PRC stage 1.0 heads
11/32 pushrods
Texas speed Torquer v2 cam
Speed engineering headers and true dual exhaust.
If you find parts similar to these you should be close to what you want

I feel like that bucking is all in the cam and the tune. I was looking at the 102 as well but I wasn't doing anything crazy with my heads to merit going with that big of an intake

Perception and matter of opinion come into play as well. No way will any moderate sized cam drive like stock, but a great tune can greatly minimize drivability issues. There's always going to be a trade off when making more power. Sometimes the bucking or surging is largely coming from other things such as the clutch, drivetrain, etc... It's all a matter of what you are willing to give up in order to make more power
I do understand that but is a big cam the only way to go or will a slightly smaller cam work , I'm new to the ls1 , last car had a built tpi m6 480/488 cam . worked good
I don't consider a v2 a small cam nor a big cam. I know my buddy loved that cam and his car drove damn nice in a m6 and moved pretty good. His car peaked at 6300 rpms with that cam.
I chose a big cam because my end game is hopefully around 10.5 @ 125mph + at close to full weight n/a.
A big cam is not ideal for everyone.
I kinda need to clarify I think. I'm not saying that v2 is bucking like a horse or anything but it's a cam made for high revs. It's not a terrible surge but in a parking lot if you let off the gas real quick you get that drivetrain lash back and forth. And I just stopped cruising on the highway below 1500 rpms. You get used to it and basically relearn how to drive your car. Any internal mods you make are going to change the driveability and take time to relearn the cars tendencies.
While I don't daily drive my car I would have no problem doing it with the Vengeance VR-5 cam. Its a big cam but with the 6 speed its only different driving really slow in parking lots and what not but a rear gear of 3.73 or higher helps a lot. Looking back I might have gone 4.10s but I wasn't a fan of shifting so often. Anyway as jaxcam02 said, you learn to drive it differently and for the record my wife drives it around town all the time and it didn't take her long to learn how to drive it.
My old setup was...
LS1 & 4L60E in a 02 Firebird
90mm throttle body
Fast 92
Tick performance SNS stage 3 cam
Morel 5206 lifters
799 heads milled .030 and bowl worked
.040 head gaskets
ARH 1 3/4 stepped to 1 7/8
11/32 pushrods
38lb injectors
racetronix fuel pump
ATI damper
Circle D 3E converter (flashed to 4500)
12 bolt with a 3.73 gear set
LCA’s, short torque arm, PHB
Viking double adjustable front shocks
Cheap competition engineering rear shocks
The car made 454 rwhp and ran a best of 10.84 @ 123mph N/A 800DA
I was running a 26” M/T drag radial with the rear seat removed.
It can be done, just pay attention to detail as you choose parts for your build. Make sure they all complement each other and you have a chance of reaching your goal. If I removed more weight and a little more seat time with that setup I bet I could have went hi 10.6X’s N/A
