Bought this used fabricated rear-end from Hawk Motorsports. I just pulled my 10 bolt out and noticed the sensor at the top. The new rear-end doesn't have a place for this. My question is what is it and do I have to have it.

If I recall right the top sensor is for traction control. Basically you have 4 channel abs instead of the basic 3. If you don't care about traction control then it's not really an issue. There should be a few threads that can tell you the specifics.

Important is a relative term. Some folks swear by tcs or abs or airbags or some other random thing. Others rip it all out the day after the warranty expires.
