Default Temp Sending sensor

I'm using Fitech Ultimate EFI for LS1 and they use the temp sensor in the front of the drivers side head. But I've heard that I will have to use another sensor for a gauge. Is there another location to put another sensor? There's a plug on the passenger side head but in the rear of the head and it's got a smaller plug put into it. Has anyone drilled and tapped it for a temp sensor or is there a better way/location for one?

The hole on the passenger side head is the same size and thread as on the driver's side.

I think they recommend the from because ease of install and probably a little more accurate a temp there. No issue in running the rear spot

No not on this engine. Maybe because its's one of the first ones. These heads have the perimeter bolts on the valve covers. Want to get the 243 heads for it. Maybe they will have the correct size hole for the sencor.

im confused by this statement, to the best of my knowledge there are no left or right heads, they are identical and can be installed either side. so they should both have coolant plugs, just the one on the passenger side will be back toward the firewall

Default Rear Temp Sensor = Lower Reading

Hi All, the "rear mount" Temp Sensor will state a LOWER value than actual engine Coolant Temperature.

Both holes in the heads for temp sensors are M12 x 1.5 for size and thread pitch. And you really do need to use both holes - one for the PCM and another for any dashboard temperature gauge. Especially for the PCM temperature input, they don't recommend splitting that signal taking it to two places for best PCM operation.

the factory uses 1 hole for both correct? i know the 99 and up is no good but on the 98 does it not get pcm and gauge signal from that single drivers side signal? or is the gauge off of the pcm or something

Default CLT Sensor Read

Hi All, the "rear read" is often 30* F Lower.

I didn't know it would be that much, but it falls right inline with what I've seen with my Nova running ~150* temps from the passenger side head. Thanks again Lance.

Thanks guys for the info. The holes are the same. Didn't realize the sensor reduced that much in thread size. Was looking at pictures rather than taking it out. Didn't know that there was that much of a temp drop between heads. Hope this system works good. Got a lot to learn.
