Drive it like you stole it, and you will cut a half second. Its hard to do when you have to pay for repairs to your car. Try to shift alot faster.

Your poor 60 foot times account for your 14's, but why the low mph? I ran a stock 2001 Z28 with just a lid at 13.98 with 2.3 60 foot times. However, I did run 104.7 mph. And that's at 1250 foot of altitude AND a 86 degree night. You should be running over 106 with your setup even with 2.4 60 foot times.

Thanks,
Glenn

Wont short shifting affect the MPH? I know my mph was low when i first ran, but I was shorting every gear. Might need to get a shift light to make sure you are shifting at the RPM you think you are. Stock tach can be a bit off, but with a light you stay consistent.

I shift at 6 grand everytime. I also nail 2nd as fast and hard as I can. Same with 3rd and same with 4th. Launch the bs out of it without lighting the tires up. Some spin is good. If you baby it into 2nd because you don't want to "chirp" or spin them - well, that's hurting just as much as spinning.

I don't get that..i had a better 60ft and i have more mods then you. I ran an 8.7 @ 82.

Now with this run i had me in the car (260lbs and 2 girls 240lbs). Did the extra weight really have that much of an affect on the time. Considering the run without the 2 girls and it probably would have been an 8.5 and around 85mph. Still that is way too slow for my mods.

You have an auto. They always trap lower.

I ran a kid with a 2000 Z with a lid, maf, tb, O/R Y, loudmouth, stall, and 3.73's. He only managed a 13.3 @ 104. I pull the crap out of him from a roll. From a dig, I'm on him by 40 and zipping past him.

You were running on street tires right? Having passengers in your car will help your 60fts to a certain extent. Its kind of like putting two sand bags in your back seat -- the more weight on the tires, the less they will slip and the harder/faster you can launch.
Unfortnatly that extra weight will kill your overall times. For me, an extra passenger cut my sixty by 2 tenths but bumped up my et by almost a full second in the 1/4mile.

For a 1st attempt at racing with an M6....don't feel bad. The track plays a BIG factor in your times as well. A poorly prepped track on a hot/ humid night will murder your times.

The first time I ran my car in Hawaii I ran a 14.2 at 100. I nearly blew the rubber off the tires....2.6 60' time, 45 degree slideout from 1-2 shift, and chirped 3rd. I felt bad (hell, I was humiliated and embarassed all in one!) until I realized I was running right with the rest of the F-bodies there that night. I ended out smoking an 02 vette... with a 14.2 to is 14.5. Go figure So...the track IS a factor.

Your launch and shifting is probably keeping you from the 13's. (I know it's keeping me from the 13's right now ) The ultimate question is ....are you having fun? If you answer yes to that...then who cares about the rest. I would hazard to guess that not every person is totally truthful about their speed claims (No flames please....this is simply a reality statement here .)

Two things are relatively certain. If you continue to go to the track, your times will drop as your skill improves. Second, as you add mods, your car will get faster and show that $$ wasn't spent in total vain These have always been my two motivating factors.

Good luck.

You're definately losing time on your 60 fts......drag radials will help too.
Although what is the elevation of the track?
Trust me, that can make a big difference.......come on up to Reno (4500+ ft) for some crappy ets!

No, that's fine! Don't worry about it. If you're not getting some spin going into 2nd on radials, then either a), there is a ton of VHT on the track, or b) you're down on power/shifting too slow, or c) your clutch is shot.

One more little trick that should help a little bit. Up your rev limiter to 6300 for third gear only and don't shift to 4th. Of course, once you do many mods, you'll be running way too fast to do this, but stock it works great.

Thanks,
Glenn

Don't feel that bad, a buddy of mine ran an 18.8 in his 2000 WS-6 his first run out at the track. Practice makes perfect, keep going and pretty soon you will cut some good times. If you have traction control make sure it's off (I made that mistake once or twice).

For me the faster I shift, the more I spin, not chirp.... Once I started doing suspension mods like sfc's for example, it stiffened the car up alot more allowing for the power to get to the ground & not lost through chasis flex... With my mods, the best I've been able to run was a 13.1 @ 112 w/ a 2.3 60ft(on street tires)... I'm sure with a decent set of dr's, I might be able to pull a 1.9 or so & most likely put me down to the mid - high 12's with the same mph.

Mike

Ok thanks for the help. Now that I think about it I think my traction control was ON. That would have hurt my times?

I hit second HARD- Stock 13.6 @ 106 2.1 60'
Lid, SLPRA, Lingenfelter intake, MAF, SLP LM- 12.84 @ 111.50 2.132 60'

Make sure you shift at 5500 rpm, keeps you in the powerband.

Good luck
