Pretty easy install..

Really easy with a set of ramps or jackstands.

Be warned! Disconnect the little tab in the top of the alternator before you attempt removing it. I didn't know it was there pulled out the alternator and yanked out the wire with it. Had to have everything resoldered.

Also make sure that you have a couple extensions and even a swivel socket for the rear bolt.

Good luck..

It's fairly simple if a little frustrating at times

Disconnect the battery!! I cannot stress this enough. One little brain fart and a slip of the wrench and you're putting out a fire with the extinguisher mounted to yoru workbench, then driving all over town (in a different vehicle) looking for a power steering return hose, and then cleaning up the fire extinguisher mess. Don't ask me how I know this.

As Z28Venom Disconnect the weatherpack on top this is the "exciter wire" this is responsible for telling the alternator to start charging. It was like this on my '98. I have since converted to a one wire alternator that does not require the "exciter wire".

You'll have three bolts. 2x15mm and 1x13mm I believe

The two 15mm face the front of the vehicle the 13mm is on the top and faces then back if I recall correctly.

You also will have the cable going from the charging post on the back of the alternator to the battery. This should be disconnected only after double checking that the battery is DISCONNECTED Applying some dielectric grease to the inside of the boot that covers the charging post can save some frustration when it comes time hook things back up.

The bottom most 15mm mounting bolt also held an auto trans cooler line brack on my car.Remember to put this bracket back on before installing this bolt. Again, don't ask how I know this.

good luck

Yup...the 3.4L twin dual cam...what a wonderful flop that experiment was. Thanks to honda for nothing (the engine was a honda design borrowed by GM). The alternator was located on the lower back side of the engine (laterally mounted) and required dropping the pass side engine cradle for changing. On top of that it was a special air cooled alternator that had a plenum that ran from the intake to keep the thing cool, so no regular alternator would work, only the special $260 one.
