Octane Boost, good or bad?
I bought Amsoil Octane Boost. Its supposed to increase octane, up to 7 points. It advices for off road and racing use. Will I be safe on useing this on my Camaro? Only mods I've done are y-pipe, loudmouth, foam air filter, performance air lid.
Also, would octance boost, help out, on passing an emission test? Next year, it's emission test time.

Thanks for the info, I will take the advise and not use the octane boost in my car.
But what do I now do with the octane boost? I ship it back, I end up wasting the same amount I paid for the octane boost. Will this hurt other cars as well? 84 Honda moms car, 93 Toyota pickup dads car. Or should I just can it?

Octane booster is the same stuff that gas companies add to their gas to increase the octane. When they recieve it from the pipeline, shipping yard, etc. They add all their **** to. it is exactly the same. Using it every once in a while wont hurt the car, it will just burn out the guck that builds up.

The only product I recommend which also helps boost octane is Fuel Power. It is also very good at cleaning your combustion chamber and fuel system too. It's sold only from their website though, at www.lubecontrol.com I just ordered a gallon of it last week.

Comparing it to race gas: if you had 10 gal of 92 oct gas in the car, and added just 1 gal of 100 oct race gas, you'd end up with 11 gal of 92.7 octane fuel. For about the same price, you could add the oct booster & end up with 10 gal of 92.7 oct gas.
But the reality is most cars will not be affected by either. I have tried both several times during my dyno & track events, and saw no change. Now if you had higher compression, or a stroker motor, or boost that would be different. But for a stock motor with bolt ons, it's a waste of $ IMO.

Many guys I know with older cars found that they would no longer get detonation when running 87 octane gas. Some of them had to previously run 89 in order to keep detonation away.
