T-top Flew Off Yesterday

T-top Flew Off Yesterday
I've read posts on this and have been super-careful about making sure the latch was fully closed and everything was cinched down tight. Well, yesterday I had them off, put 'em on, latched 'em, checked 'em, and then when I was cruising down the freeway, I rolled my window up and the thing flew off and the glass shattered into a thousand pieces. I take my t-tops off all the time, and one thing I don't do is lock 'em. I don't know if that would have prevented this, but I'm going to from now on, at least if I'm going to be on the freeway. Live and learn.

Same thing happened to me at the track on my last car. Hit about 60 and i was like, god theres alota wind noise... (right after my windshield had been replaced) then the t-top flies off, straight up into the air. Thank god it was ok though!

Way back when I first saw any posts about T-tops flying off I immediately went out and checked to make sure that the metal rods that lock the t-tops down went completely through the locking holes. Its not good enough that you keep the t-tops locked. If I remember correctly the metal rods only went through the locking holes an 1/8 inch or so. I adjusted them so they went in at least a half inch.

My metal rods extend way out when fully latched. When I picked up the remains of the top, I noticed that the latch was about 1/2 undone. This phenomenon is something of a mystery, but I presume that the difference in air pressure that occurred when the window sealed shut precipitated it.
I doubt if anyone from the NTSA reads this board, but it evidently happens frequently enough and represents enough potential danger, that a recall would be in order.

jrtf83 did yours fly off after you got SFC or before? Aren't SFC suppose to help this not to happen? I am about to get my BMR SFC installed soon. I agree that there should be a recall. This for sure happens enough to have one. I drive with my fingers crossed that mine won't fly off.

How did you adjust them?

I'm not understanding how this is happening, even with the t-tops latched. I've owned my TA (t-tops) for a little over eight years and never experience anything close to having them fly off--even up to speeds of 80 mph+ in windy conditions.
It sucks though and it's a scary thought... although if I saw my t-top fly off I wouldn't be worried about how much or how fast it would take to replace it. The first thought that would cross my mind would be, "How many years will I get if it crashes into a car behind me and kills someone?"
