Why are these people telling me LS1's are 14-15 second cars?!

First time I ever heard an LS1 run 14's -I got to get to a race track and test my car out. I can understand how some argue about the time depending on the driver, but if they belive LS1's run 14's, then what do they belive a Mustang runs, -let me admit I didn't read all the thread, so they probably talk about the Mustangs and other cars. The message board seems to go against everything I knew about LS1 cars, what is thier problem? Are they really LS1 car owners?

I also find it funny how they debate and judge LS1 cars only from what they heard instead of running their car at the track. I will go back and read the (quote) "Link to stupid thread" and hope to find some sane post.

You can get a 01' WS6 to run 12.9 at 108 on a 70 degree day at 100 ft.
Then you could get the same 01' WS6 to run at 14.2 at 100 the same day with a different driver .
Also, when you get to higher elevations like 5800 ft you will probably see 14s all day with whoever is driving and 15s.
Point is it depends on experience and environment to determine the outcome.
As Keenov stated, a newbie at the track could take a low 13 second car and do a 16 second 1/4.

and of all the Ls1 drivers i know, about 10 i cruise with, apparently my car was the only one that ran 13s stock, the rest, low 14s. and almost all of them are m6 and i would have to say they are all probably better drivers than me. they are all also alot faster than me now.

yea that thread is stupid. they cant just get to the point that an LS1 is capable of low 13s, high 12s. seems like some of them are jealous and are trying to car bash because of it. you could say the same thing about any car...ie - 03+ cobra they're capable of mid 12s, but with a crappy driver that never goes to a track, they'll run mid to high 13s. all this "my car is faster stock than you car is stock" is getting old. how many people that go to the track are actually bone stock anymore? People are dumb... my first time to the track, with nothing but a cutout, lid, CAI, and Predator tune I was turning mid 13s. Keep in mind that was during the middle of summer (gets hot around here), and I had never, EVER taken any car down the track before. And I still think my worst run was in the 13.8s... but the majority of my runs were in the 13.5 range. I was as green as green can be when it came to drag racing...

My first time at the track with my old car ('90 F-bod, 350ZZ4 M5 4.10's) I went 15.8@99mph. The very next run I went 14.20@100mph. 60' both times were ~2.5. After that it was 14.17-14.19 @100mph every time. The point...that car should have seen 13's but was traction impaired. All this after I read that third-gens with a ZZ4 were hitting 13.20's.

using evan smiths run of 12.8 @ 110 for an average bench mark is , i'd be willing to be there are far more high 13, low 14, and yes even some 15 second ls1's then you think. you probably dont here about them because one, people are embarrassed. two, they read about 12 second stock cars and think there's should run the same, so they dont post up due to reference one.
same deal with dyno numbers, people read about a handful of 326rwhp bone stock cars so they automatically use ~330rwhp as the ls1 bench mark. then call blasphemy when they hear about an ls1 dynoing 280rwhp or even 276rwhp (on a dynojet). "...no way an ls1 can dyno that low, there must be something wrong...". its called the real world.

everyone's car is different. for that matter each driver is different. i've never even been down a 1/4(blasphemous, i know). i have no idea what my car or i could pull off. does that mean i'll call myself a 13.2 driver cuz my car might be able to do it? no....
run what ya brung....thats how the real world goes. that thread was a bunch of dyno-queens that were bench racing. pull out timeslips and see what each driver/car combo is really capable of.

Nobody's saying they all run 12.9's or make 330hp.
A non-convertible LS1 should run 13.3-13.6. If it runs 14's, somethings wrong. Either the track is at some crazy elevation, it's 110 degrees with 100% humidity, or your grandma is driving.
Personally, mine went 13.06 with a lid and catback. 2.73 auto at that.

my very first pass ever in the '98 Formula was a tire smoking 14.21 and I lost to my roommate at the time in his stock '97 Mustang GT. He cut a good light and didn't spin, and ran a worse ET (15.1) but I still lost. I never heard the end of that one!
Of course, LS1s had just come out and nobody knew where to shift them for peak performance, and I was on stock crappy RSA GoodYucks. I was used to being able to floor my previous GT off the line with no spin (weak engine!) and that didn't work on this car. Eventually I ran a 13.8 stock before modding it.
Later on when I became a much better driver, I drove a bone stock '00 Z28 to a 13.12 mid-summer. I also drove a bone stock T/A to a 13.3
Traction is the biggest factor, then driving skill.

My first run was a 14.4 @ 81 mph. My t-top flew off .
2nd run EVER (in my life and with this car) at a track I pulled a 13.5.
Hell, I've missed a gear when racing and pulled the 15 second run...
