I know it'll be in 5th gear, my guess would put it between 4000 and 5000rpm, but i'm not positive.

That's right. Also orange indicator lights on the front right and front left fenders.
All V8 LS1 f-bodies have got the less flow Exhaust cat back from the stock V6 3.8 L in order to be more quite and restrictive. And all 98-2002 V8 F-bodies are rated at 288 HP insteatd of 305 HP and up. Probably because of the more restrictive Exhaust system. But it's great to drive an 4th generation American V8 F-body in Europe. There are only a few of them to see.

You will not have the power to pull any faster in 6th gear. Your top speed will be acheived in 5th gear.

i did i 155mph and let off as soon as i hit it that, gets nerves going when your driving at that speed consistently and i do have very much respect for the guys that race on the super speedways like daytona and talladega

A stock LS1 fbody will do 160-162 mph at which point it'll smack into the factory speed limiter. Remove the speed limiter and it'll do 165-168 mph or so. My bolt on car I've had up to a radar verified 172 mph in ORR. It would probably do 175-176 maxed out. I don't know what my current rwhp is, but I dyno'd 338 rwhp and since then have added QTP's with high velocity merge collectors and deleted my cats so probably 360ish or so.

You people should try some ORR and then you don't have to wonder

So it wouldnt pull any more if I were at 5500 RPM@ 150mph in 5th then when i hit 6000 and shift to 6th it wouldnt pull anymore at all huh?

I dunno about that I think it would pull maybe not much but I think it would pull.
I havent tried it at 150 yet but I have had it in 6th at slower speeds and she pulls.

With the wind resistance (a log function) at 150mph, 6th gear just won't give you the power to accelerate any more. If you try it, the car will probably end up slowing down 10 or 20 mph.

I promise you that if you shift into 6th gear at 5500 rpm's, which works out to about 162 mph your car will SLOW DOWN. Your car won't go over 140 or close to that in 6th gear. It's just the way it is. 6th gear is a gas mileage gear and that's all it's good for.

You can go faster than 150 in 5th gear. You can also go higher than 5500RPM's... But, if you do shift to 6th, you are going to slow down. The gearing is just too horrible to overcome the aerodynamics factor.

So many people saying so it must be true. So I will take their words on it. I'd try it just to do it but man the cops have been out alot here lately. I had a state trooper flash his lights at me this morning going to work I was only going 70 in a 55 though.

PS I had my caddy up to 120 ...lol

Talking

Yep another vote for 162MPH being speed limiter
While in Vegas for a weekend we took an afternoon excursion out to Rachel, Nevada (closest town to Area 51)

Once you get onto that "Extraterrestrial Highway" is essentially a 80+ mile long deserted straightaway which slowly dips up and down. Perfect for another type of Unidentified Flying Object...

My stock limiter on my 98 ta was 160. I've also heard the number 162 thrown around a lot, but I know mine was set at 160. I've only been up to 150 though, still was pulling, but the road was a little to rough for my liking so i shut it down.

Did 161 on the dyno for a top speed. I know that isn't driving speed with the wind resistance, but I have an A4 and it was in Drive when it hit the limiter. I wanted to pop it up in OD yet but was denied buy the guy running the thing.

The best part was they had a local black and white Crown Vic on it before me (this was at a local car show) and he only pulled a 145......

Have the sheet to prove it if anyone wants to call my bluff.

Well, had my Cavalier up to 105 or so when the limiter kicked in, took my Alero to 110 or 115 (limiter again), 5.9 Jeep... I think it was 120, my old 'vert Z28 to ~150 (last time I looked at the speedo) and my SS to about 150.

I got pulled over in my Cavalier doing 100 and the judge told me I was lucky the cop didn't arrest me on the spot, but the cop was really cool. He came up to my window and said "Wow, pretty quick lil car, huh?" and I told him "Nah, I had this thing floored for a while to get it that fast"
