I know I'm a little late to the game, but...
Just test drove my first LS-1 - 2004 Red on Black GTO M6. Couldn't get the pricing to work out or else it would be in my garage right now...
The ride was amazing - swinging the tail out on sharp turns, chirping third, even just letting the engine creep into 1st with no gas was awesome. (this is all with TC on and a very cool salesman
Here's my question - since I'm obviously on a budget, what would a good entry level LS1 car be? 98+ Z28/Trans-Am, 99+ Silvy/Sierra , or 97+C5?
Thanks for any suggestions you see fit to provide!

You could find a nice '98-'99 Z28 for less than $10K if you look hard enough. If you can find the C5 cheap enough, I'd almost say go with that because the 'Vettes are actually cheaper on insurance than the FBodies.

98+ Z28/Trans-Am: If you want to go fast, cheap.
99+ Silvy/Sierra: IMHO I would not get a truck for going fast, I would use it to pull my car.
97+C5: Since you like the way the GTO handles you would love this car, but will cost alot more than the same year/miles as a f-body would cost.
This is just my opion, it would all depend on you.
Peace,
Craig.

i wouldnt get a truck. if you really need to move somthing large, i'm sure you could find someone to trade for a day lol.
i just got my car in march and i couldnt be happier w/ the ls1 power. there's a guy in the texas forum selling a SWEET trans am for like 8500 bux, its an auto but it looks clean as hell.

Actually I'm surprised you couldnt get the pricing to work out. Here in Michigan they were practically giving them away. Lease deals were like under $300 a month with nothing down or something like that. Anyways, basically the older the LS1 the cheaper it is, just like any other car. Find as low of mileage as you can get.
