Default Windshield Issue...

I noticed a small crack in my windshield today. It's on the Passenger side, about 3 inches up. It appeared to start on the side of the windshield, worked it's way over about 4 inches and has 90 degreed down toward the wipers. I looked around and couldn't find any sign of impact or chipping, just a hairline crack. Can't figure it out. I washed and waxed the car about 2 weeks ago and did not notice it then. I was wondering if anyone else has had this same problem. It seems like maybe there is an alignment problem? or maybe even Chassis flex? I dunno, but it's an odd place for a crack to start on it's own. Also, any idea how much a new Windshield is gonna cost me on this thing?

I think a new windshield is roughly 6-$700 or so. You don't pull the wheels on launch do you ??

Oh yeah, I pull mad wheelies bone stock with Sumitomo's outback!!! Yeah sure. I know I'm probably fishing with the chassis flex thing, but maybe from a bump or hmmm. I just thought of something. While home for the Thanksgiving holiday I had to back out of a very steep driveway. To avoid dragging I had to take it a little diagonally and I ended up 3 wheeling for a sec or two. I think I recall hearing a pop and thinking it was the spring resetting itself or something. I wonder if that torque would have caused it. Seems odd to happen, but maybe time for some SFC's. Please, any input would help.

6-700 bucks, WOW, when I checked here in my area for replaceing my front windshield they said they could do it for $140 with windshield, though I haven't replaced the windshield or looked around for prices from other shops I will have to say so far 140 looks good compared to 700, but I didn't ask if front window was going to be a new or used window.

Check your insurance policy.
Here in MA windshields are covered in the insurance policy.
I don't know about other states since MA & NJ are the most heavily regulated as far as insurance is concerned.

I paid $200 installed for mine. They even came to the house and did it.
Another thing to consider, you never happened to open the hood while the wipers were pulled up for washing or something did you? I almost forgot and did that once, the windshield was already cracked at the time though..I bought the car like that....

Hmm, no I haven't had the wipers up and lifted the hood. I'm going to call my Insurance company tomorrow and see if they will cover it. I'm gonna try and make that arguement that it was weather related (really cold temps) as I can't really see any other explanation.

Gents, after dumping 20g's into my TT SS, then detailing it for 4 hrs, I poped the hood w/ the wipers up. POP, 4 spiders 1 in each direction about 18" or so each. Thank you, I suck, f.

Thanks for making me laugh lol ! A friend of mine posted in the nw section asking for help getting his wiper arms off. 10 minutes later he posted about how he broke his windshield using a prybar to assist in this task

I was going to say, same here in FL. Check with your insurance company. I had that problem with another car about ten years ago and the insurance company replaced it immediately.
