An SS is a Z28 with these additions:

(2002) SS Performance Package - includes 325-hp 5.7L LS1 V8 with forced air induction system, unique hood air intake, low restriction exhaust system, synthetic engine oil, P275/40ZR17 Goodyear Eagle F1 performance tires (maximum speed rating), 17" x 9" 5-spoke aluminum wheels, specially-tuned performance suspension with larger front stabilizer bar, stiffer springs, unique shock valving and stiffer bushings, specific exterior and interior "SS" badging and unique rear deck-lid spoiler. And it cost an average of $5000 over that of a Z28.

Note: The LS1 engine in the Z28 and the SS are the exact same motor, there is NO DIFFERENCE between them.

http://media.gm.com/division/canada/...002Camaro.html

Go to Jerami's sticky list at the top of this board and everything you could ask is listed there.

I had the chance to buy an SS and chose a Z28. The fact that its an SS is simply not worth it to me to spend 5K more when all that stuff has been/will be replaced with more effective parts than offered by the factory anyways.

That's right, they don't give them the SS label for nothing.

Come on guys, he's asking a fair question. We were all new once.

To the poster, as I'm sure you can tell by now, the primary difference is looks. The SS is a little more prestigious (sp?), but in a race, they're the same car.

Call me crazy, but now that I've sold my Z-28 and am looking at SS's, it does seem that the SS's are nicer cars. I honestly cannot put my finger on it for the life of me though. Maybe I'm just being pulled in my the tags..... Hey, didn't you say you sold a new Z for an older SS and liked the SS a bit more? Have you figured out why?

The only reason I went from a Z to a SS was for the looks. My Z was quicker (being an 01 compared to my 00 SS).

If you don't care about looks, then just get the Z. If you want some flash and "exclusivity" (doesn't much for me, but it might others), then get the SS.

The SS just looks cooler. And I'm jealous. When I bought my car (brand new) I chose the Z28 over the SS sitting right next to it. The price tag was the deciding factor. If I had it to do over, I would do the SS. Ironically, I think Z/28 sounds cooler than SS. Plus GM sticks the SS badge on everything today. How about that new Cobalt SS.

not ALL SS's come with all those options right? from my understanding they are just options and an SS may be the same as a Z28 besides the cat back. plus that "ram air" isnt really ram air like the TA has, yeah the baffles suck, unless u take them out. now thats ram air lol

Their Both Basically The Same Car. I Bought My Camaro New And I Could'nt See Paying $5,000 More For The Ss As Well As Higher Insurance!

i keep telling everyone one of the reasons why i went with the Z28 is that it sounds so much more bad *** to tell people i have a Z28, to me SS isnt special anymore, hell my mom can go around tell people she has an SS, and its not fast at all, 02 FWD V6 Monte Carlo SS, ive seen a Cavalier SS around here too

oh and according to some guy i met once, his SLP SS is ungodly fast, if i raced him, he would put 5 car lengths on me, and its super fast because its made by SLP

If I could just find me a SS hood I would be happy. I love the look of the hood but I wanted a stripped Z28.

There is no insurance difference between the Z28 and SS because when you give the insurance company your VIN, it comes up as a Z28. My insurance went down when I went from my 01 Z to the 00 SS.

He's pounded it into all of us. So now myself and many others take care of his "light work". Although, he has been taking it pretty easy on some noobs. Hmmm. . .
