Hey can you guys help me out here. What are the benefits to running an oil catch can? What do you do with the oil that's in it? Can someone post pics of one and how exactly do you install it? Sorry I'm a little ignorant on this subject.

The oil and air go through the catch can before returning to behind the TB. The oil condenses inside the can and then drips to the bottom, the air then is sucked out. The design of the can keeps any oil from going back into the intake.

I highly recommend doing this if you suspect your PCV system is drawing in oil. The oil thats in it, I just dispose of. Also, I have pics on my website of where I mounted it, I believe Page 2 or 3.

Thanks a lot. Do you think that'd be my problem with oil consumption? I have an 01 TA and like I said I lose a little bit, but no smoking and no leaks.

There you go. I mounted it there, because that was the best place for me. Other places are: EGR location (if you dont have it), TCS-if you arent traction control equipped, or where the AC dryer would be-if you ditched your AC.

It could be. I would take off the intake bellows, and look in the TB. If its oily and filmy in there, then yes, you are drawing in oil through the PCV.

Ok if I get one I might mount it in the EGR location. Since it's an 01 that's something I don't have but I have my AC still along with my TCS. I'll check out my throttle body probably sometime next week. Thanks again.

No problem.
Before I mounted it, I did an induction service, that way, everything will stay nice and clean.

Well, my previous car burned about 1 qt every 1,000 miles, but it ran awesome, and didn't smoke. It wasn't a daily driver so it did see alot of aggressive driving. My new one has over 1,000 miles on it since I changed the oil and it hasn't budged yet (knock on wood) They all seem to be different.

I have a 98 Z28 and i just bought it a few months ago it runs great so far but i noticed it uses about 1/2 - 1 qt every 3,000 miles. I use 5w30 Mobil 1 fully synthetic but i heard the reason for this oil consumption is becuase of the stock valve seals dont seal that great. A few of my buddys have LS1 cars and theres did it to especially in the winter when its cold and one of them changed the seals and valve springs and all that when he did a cam swap and it didnt use oil anymore and my other buddy put Patriot heads on with all new seals it came with and his stopped using oil to. So that could be a reason just a suggestion. I'm changing my seals when i change cam. Also my car ticks alot when its cold until it warms up.

its an additive and can be found at any parts store. its about 7 bucks i think, and you use it instead of 1 qt of oil. its real thick and seems to work. i only hear good things about it. and at the parts stores..on the counters, they always have a lil demonstration set up with gears, and one side is plain oil, and the other side is with the lucas stuff. and if you spin the gears with the plain oil, it doesnt lube real well....but the lucas travels alot better and stuff.....check it out

I have a '02 that doesn't use any oil. I have 9400 miles on it. Change to M1 at 8500 miles. I drive it hard half the time, but I don't beat on it.

My '98 started seriously burning oil about a month ago. Burns about a quart every 500 miles - but it also sometimes smokes bad during open loop. Haven't put my finger on it yet.

I've got an inline fuel filter in my PCV line with a clear cover. The oil burning seemed to happen about the same time I switch from Mobil to Castrol oil, and from Mobil to K&N filter, and about 6 weeks after starting SD tuning.

Did you switch oil weights? Maybe the Castrol is thinner...
