I got my 98 Z28 brand new my senior year of h.s. I was 18. Never had any problems that I caused..got hit a couple times not long after I got it by other people(what luck) Including losing the whole passenger side to an 18 wheeler side swiping me on the way home from college freshman year for thanksgiving break(no, i'm not kidding).

Just use your head is all I have to say. My first car was a 87 Supra Turbo 5 speed. Don't be dumb, and don't listen to others than want you to be.

I still have the car, and boy is it a bit diff now, its still in one piece, more than I can say for a few other dudes I knew in H.S that got brand new LT1's and stuff the year before I got my car. so just watch out.

and yes, until I got out of college, I had my stuff under my dad's name to keep it cheap. But now with my mult-car, good student discount(graduated with certian gpa), and no accident discount, its pretty good actually.

Yea, getting good grades does help a lot, B-honor roll lowers it about 100 bucks a year for me...

Instead of an LS1 why not get a LT1 or a 5.0 Mustang or something? Either would be a cool car and a lot cheaper. You also wouldn't have to worry about the door dings, spilled drinks, etc., that probably will happen with your high school friends riding in it.

dude you should really ask an insurance guy. im 18 in nj i was paying $6,500/yr in my name (my dad wont let me put it in his) but i took a $2,000 collision and $1,000 comprehensive deductible and now its down to a measly $4,500/yr (about $500/month) so my advice would be to
A. talk your dad into putting it in his name or
B. wait a few years till your like 20 something
dont get me wrong. if i had to do it all over again i would but its not fun bending over for the insurance companies.

And since you live close to me, I know for a fact that just because you live in Harris county, its gona be higher. Reason being is because that Houston is Harris county and that means it a whole lot more cars on the street to deal with on a daily basis than if you were livin in a county like Waller or something like that right out side of Houston it would make it that much cheaper because thats out in the country and its fewer cars out there. Im not trying to discourage you from getting the car because of insurance, but when you get quotes for your insurance look for all the loop holes you possibly can, and go ahead and take the alcohol awareness class in drivers ed, and take defensive driving before hand. I took all that but the defensive driving before hand (but HAD to take it over the summer ) and just the drivers ed and alcohol class lowered it 15%
