Default Need help on Headers

I got my 2000 trans am ws6 about 6 months ago and i have slp intake k&n filter, electric cutout, with flowmaster, and a gorilla chipz chip (POS the ses light is always on). i wanted the slp headers but i have a friend that purchased slp headers and they have no clearance with his stock springs and i droped my car 1.5" so i would like to know witch header to buy between supermaxx with cats, or kooks without cats or if u have any other suggestions? wats the difference with cats or no cats after the headers? wat r the best headers on the market for trans ams regardless of price?

the difference between cats and no cats is mostly the sound and a few horses. depends on if you have emissions testing in your state. my opinion is no cats but thats just me, sounds pretty good without them. slp headers have cleaerence issues for sure and that is why alot of people dont get them. kooks makes some good headers from what I understand. i run duals in my car but you might have issues if your car is to low.

I'd say, first of all, get rid of that chip. Then i'd suggest Kooks with an ory, especially with the e-cutout you already have. I assume you still have the stock muffler or something or the sort, and its nice to have it loud as hell one sec and quiet the next. Emmisions is the big factor though and i dont know about florida emmision laws.

ORY = Off road y-pipe. Also, since you are in Miami I wouldnt get stainless, much too expensive for where you live. Id get a set of coated pacesetter LT's and an ory. It will be much more cost effective, you should be able to get the headers and y-pipe for around $500 new as opposed to $700+ for the kooks stainless. Cats will quiet down your set up but will also reduce any rasp. Id suggest though goin with the ory since you have no emmisions and ditch the flowmaster muffler for a hooker aerochamer or a magnaflow muffler.

pacesetters are the best choice if you do not want to get stainless (kooks/QTP) headers. make sure you get the ceramic coated since you're in florida.

pacesetters + TSP y-pipe would be a very good combo (pacesetter y-pipe doesnt fit as well)

where exactly does this "chip" install?

and BTW - flowmasters are referred to as "clogmasters" on this board as it is on other ls1 boards. they are notorious about flowing like **** and bringing down your numbers. they do sound awesome though! LT's to an ORY w/ the electric cutout thru a flowmaster would sound awesome, and flow awesome when opened.

The chip is installed in the slp intake lid. the first sensor of the intake system. i removed the sensor and put the two wires from the chip into the sensor and dats it. i got it off of ebay if u go on ebay you will see it there (Gorilla Chipz)

this "chip" is nothing more than a resistor that can be bought at radio shack for 25 cents same kinda thing can be done to disable the skipshift in the 6-speed cars.

it tells the computer that the incoming air is colder (57 degrees i think?), and advances your timing a little bit. if the incoming air is actually colder than that, it doesnt help or hurt you. lots of people do it for a little extra bump in timing.

edit: there's nothing to say that the "chip" isnt the WRONG resistor, and could be detrimental. ls1camaro.net has a writeup about it somewhere (i think thats the site )
