SS is funner to drive due to the M6, but the Z28 has an LS1 and lower miles and simple mods gets these cars moving fast. If it was me I would go with the SS simply because of the M6 will give you more control of the car then the A4.

Yeah, I drove the SS but have not drove the Z yet cuz its pretty far from where i live but will be looking at/test driving it weds. I think if the Z drives well i will probably get the Z cuz i know i will be happier w/ an LS1 cuz i have driven both kinds of cars and i just love the LS1's power and the fell of it. So we will see.

The 96 SS is the only SS you can get that doesn't have the new style interior, and I think that they are pretty rare. Maybe somone can post up how many were made in 96. I love the look of the 96 - 97 SS.

Isn't that 3.23 gears?

BTW, I would go with the 98' even if the 96' is somewhat rare simply becasue of the styling and the LS1.

Yeah A4's don't come from factory with 3.42's. They come with 2.73's or 3.23's. If it has 3.42's then it was aftermarket or swapped from a M6. Either way the LS1 is definately greater then the LT1 unless your planning on making a 9 second beast. Then it's probably cheaper to do it with the LT1.

Good luck and remember to put at least a 3000 stall torque converter in the LS1 if you get it.

Get the LS1. Then add, at the very least, lid, cat-back (or headers, duals), nittos, and a 3200+ stall converter.

read the post, its says 3.24's not 3.42's . i'd imagine he just hit the 4 instead of the 3.

Lol, I forgot about that. You closed the M6 or A4 debate thread but felt it was needed to take another shot at A4's as you locked it down. Since I could not post a reply I just put my reply in my sig where my pathetic time used to be. I'll leave it in till I get a new time in a few weeks. I just added a TCI 3500 TC and Nitto DR so I should have a slightly better time to put back in my sig.

That varies widely from person to person. I could tell him he'd be happier with an A4 because all he has to do is converter and drag radials to drag an M6 from a dig.

I LOVE the 96-97 SS's but that 96 is pretty rare I imagine. Are you going to mod? Just drive it every day?

If you plan on modding and stuff I'd go with the 98.

Screw the M6 vs A4 debate. An A4 with a quality converter will make those sissy stick grabbing M6 guys cry like a 5 year old school girl at the track (just poking fun guys..don't get all insulted lol).

LS1. No questions asked. Seriously though, it all comes down to what you would be happier with. M6's are more fun and auto's are easier when it comes to stop and go driving.

Well, if you are going to mod it and the SS already has what you want, I would be tempted to go for the SS. The 98 is the better DEAL though, no doubt about it.
