Default '98 - '99 Issues

I have been told that there are more problems with the 98-99 LS1s than there are with the 2000-2002 models, if so, what are they?

What are the main problems that would make me want a 2000+ more than a 99?

read the stickies at the top of this forum, one of them lays out the differences between all the year models.

one of the main problems i can see is that they have simply been around longer, and have more miles on them.

You'll be fine. If not, it won't be because it's a 99.

98's are just as fast after $300, and with all the money you will save on buying a 98-99 instead of a 00 or newer, over $3000 in mods!!!!

You've been told wrong.

I've had a '98, a '99, and a '00. What you heard has been untrue in my experiance.

what about the faulty trunk popper!!!!11111one

i was directing him toward the differences between the years, not a list of "if you've got a 98 its a piece of **** because....."

a 99 with those kinda miles is pretty rare, i'd say jump on it.

Actually, I had more issues with getting the trunk on my '00 unlatched than I do on my '98. Granted, the '98 doesn't actually 'pop' up, but at least it releases every time. On my '00, even once I used a better additional spring on the latch, sometimes it just wouldn't release fully on the first try. When it did release though, it always popped up.

Guess it's just a trade off.

I drive a 99, as far as im concerned 98 and 99 are some of the best years in TA's. Undoubtedly this can be argued forever between 2000+ owners and 98-99's, but you wont be wrong in going for a 99

I think the 98 cars are the best made. Maybe it's because my car is a 98.

my car unlatches every time, it NEVER pops.

my biggest problem is that about half the time, i have to try and shut the bitch like 53 times. i end up having to hold keep it open, then press the release on my key fob like 20 times before it will actually. oh yeah i think the button under my dash stopped working too lol

They key to getting the hatch closed in one try is to push right in the middle directly above the latch. It's also easier if you have a window or door cracked.

There's so many bad rumors out there. But this was the first where somebody was afraid of a 99. lol. My latch has never not popped.

My hatch works flawlessly when the weather is above 50 degrees. In the winter it's miserable. Luckily my car only moves like 4 times in the winter.

the 98 pcm cannot accept 2/3 bar denisty tuning, so for decent boosted apps, its not ideal. besides that, nothing that won't be changed with mods

my button under the dash works, but it will only halfway pop it open. What i have to do is use the button on the key fob. that always works...for now. That and my AC control is all kinds of jacked. the track is messed up, so when i turn it to Max, its actually on AC. kinda weird, but i have to deal with it.

The trunks latch has worked good, so far, since the first day I bought the car used.

I too will agree the 98s are the best year ls1 f-body.
