Default Weird gas tank question out of curiosity...

I went to fuel up today and I decided to see how much I could squeeze in the tank. My needle was showing the tank being about 1/4 left.

I squeezed 13.974 gallons in what is supposed to be a 12.9 gallon tank. And that's with the needle showing it to be 1/4 of the way full.

How the hell...

Id say theres something wrong with your fuel gauge if its reads 1/4 and its "stuffed"

That smaller 15.5 gallon steel tank just happens to weigh more than the newer, larger plastic ones too.

So then this must be a typo:

http://media.gm.com/division/canada/...998Camaro.html

At the bottom, it says fuel capacity is 12.9 gallons. Weird.

Looks like you were misled. 59l/3.8l(1gallon)=15.5 gallons. the math is wrong

lol, you're right, didn't even notice that. 59L with ~3.8L in a gallon gives 15.6 gallons. They have it right but don't know how to convert.

Might be those Imperial 5-quart gallons they used
to go by up in Canada, before they went full
metric?

Or just a typo.

Liters to gallons. Multiply 0.26 times the liters. 59 x .26 = 15.34.
