Also, if you don't want to afford to buy premium that badly you won't want to afford the other higher than average expensive that come along with it. I can understand you are stretching every penny to get the car, but it's not worth it if you don't do it right.

not bad times there guys. i ran my 98 transam 6spd at ATCO and ran a 13.28 @ 104.19 mph, messed up on the 3-4 shift due to the shift fork bending. 60' was a 2.13 i believe

If your going to drive like a sport, than you have to pay like a sport. That true with everything on these cars. Higher insurance rates, expensive tires, etc, etc, and you want to put cheap gas in the car. please

Run whatever you want. The knock sensors will pick up any detonation and retard timing. It will be slower but it won't hurt your car.
I've used 87 a few times before on long trips were max power was not a concern.

I just put 87 in mine (just got the car) and I can notice a little difference, and within the first tank the SES light came on, doh, think I'll be going back to premium on next fill up

I do believe that if you were able to tune your car,
you could make it run without pinging on 87. You
would have to give up some timing, perhaps enrich
it beyond the point of best power at WOT. But I'm
pretty sure it could be done.
But then, if 20 cents a gallon bugs you, the price
of software and laptop is probably out of the question.
Still I think that one fine day (like after I get those
truck heads swapped on and my CR drops half a point)
I may give this a serious try, just to see. Since regular
does have higher energy content, and all, might not be
so bad.
Would I do it on a stocker with those factory-whacked
coolant temp swings? Hell nope. Unless you like the
sound of a coffee can full of marbles.

lol I guess I know how to get flamed on these forums just say "Regular Unleaded" or "87 Octane" ! But you all made me realize that the extra ~3 dollars a fillup is worth the money, plus its only 3 dollars! The good news is my uncle is loaning me some money for the car, Hopefully I will be picking it up monday! (and I will use AT LEAST 91 octane!)
Thanks alot guys!!

Hey, Maybe I should start a new thread for this but since I have your attention I might as well ask here, The car I am going to buy had everything just after the catalytic converter CHOPPED off! Any suggestions on what I should replace it with, dont really want to spend more than 500 bucks but I am open to suggestions

Personally I think owning one of these cars is the LAST thing you should ever "worry" about affording. I wanted one extremely bad about a year ago, well I knew I couldn't afford one at the time, I didn't even bother with trying to do "penny pinching" as I know a high performance car requires more $$ than a new cheap-o sedan. I sence moved into a higher paying position at my job and was EASILY able to afford one, so I got one. I can still drive like a crazy man, pay for plenty of wedding stuff ( getting married in a month ), and not have to worry about money.
Good luck with everything but seriously, don't even bother if you have to figure if you can afford it, because in all honesty, if you get a speeding ticket, will it still be affordable??
