Default Gas milage

Is it possible to get 22-23 mpg with 50% city/ 50% highway driving, keeping your foot out of it and coasting all the time in a 6 speed LS1 car? What about an auto? Is there a big difference in gas milage or not? Reason I am asking is I am trying to justify buying an f-body since I will be driving many more highways miles than before, and these cars seem to get good highway mpg. My concern is the city gas milage as well, since many people on this board seem to get milage results that are all over the place.

If the gas milage on an LS1 does not work out, I will probably go for an RSX, but I am trying to stay with something with a V8.

It's possible. I get 15 +/- around town if I keep out of my '02 M6. But if mileage is a concern for you, forget it. It's just too much fun to put your foot in it. You're suppose to be able to get 28MPG on the highway with the M6 but I haven't seen that. 24 on the highway is the best I can do, and I know there are other people who do better, that's just my reality.

like kenp, its just too tempting to have fun on those straightaway on ramps getting on the highway. If your all caught up in mileage, get the rsx. if u wanna pay the couple extra bucks for gas and still have fun in the v8, then get an LS1. i tried conserving gas, but it didnt work. ill pay however much so i can get the responsive power that the LS1 gives whenever i wanted.

Mines an M6, so I can't say anything about an auto, but I think it is very possible to get 22-23 mpg, currently I'm looking @20 mpg (50% city-50% highway) if I could keep my foot out of the loud pedal, I'm sure I'd get an extra 2-3 mpg
As far as highway mpg I've gotten 31 (cruise on 75) , I was flat out amazed at that (considering 300+hp performance car)
It also depends alot on what mods you have (mine is close to stock) seeing the differnet levels of mods and the different driving styles of folks here, it's no wonder the mpg results are all over the scale.
Drive an LS1 car like a sane person= decent mpg
Drive it like a leadfooted lunatic =poor mpg

When I drove up to school, which is about 160 miles on the highway and about 20 through small towns with a lot of stoplights, I got 28 miles to the gallon. When I am at home driving around town I get anywhere from 17 to 22 miles per gallon. Most of it has to do with how heavy your right foot is and how often you can drive in 6th gear. I drove this girls RSX for a weekend and while it gets better gas mileage than an LS1, nothing I have driven yet can bring as big a smile to my face as my Z28. Good Luck with whatever you choose.

had both.... our a4 00 t/a got 26 on the interstate cruising, and yeah, 22-23 mpg is possible, if you keep your foot out of it. but whats the fun in that? im pleased as punch with the 21 avg i get not doing a lot of highway and a lot of small town driving. it gets far better gas milage than my stang. go for the fbod and enjoy it.

Yes it is VERY possible. Believe it or not, I get 20 around town, and the last highway trip I took before I put my FTRA and K&N on, I got 30 mpg. 6th gear is amazing.

I haven't checked mine, but I get 24-25 mpg in my 90 5.0 70% highway....the LS1 is suppose to better on gas, so I say 23 is doable.

Im averaging 21.4 mpg as of yesterday in my city driving. I have yet to do any measureable hiway driving to see what it is.... im hoping for 25+ on the hiway though. I dont really baby my car either... i enjoy the occasional blasts down the streets as much as anyone. My car is an auto also.

If you have to ask a question, such as, will I get good gas mileage, then I suggest you buy something with less cylinders. I`ve been driving and around V8`s my whole life and they don`t get good gas mileage. It is nearly impossible to stay out of the gas sometimes when driving a V8 performance car. I personally think you don`t need one. Buy a Honda. They get good gas mileage, low matinence and years of service.

I got 31 out of my 01 SS M6 when it was stock, doing all highway driving. Doing 50/50 hwy/city driving I have always gotten 20-21 mpg, but I dont really lay into it that often.

I've been getting about 18-21 mpg with my A4 with 2.73 rear end. Thats close to 50/50 city/highway driving.

I have a completely stock TA and I always fill up at the 1/4th left mark and I get about 200 miles to 3/4ths of a tank and I drive my car like I stole it

Get the RSX if you are worried about gas. Hell, if you are worried about gas maybe take a look into an SRT-4.. it's a sporty car with 4 doors ( insurance discount for some places ) and it's quick.

Like I said in another post, You don't buy a muscle car for good gas milage!

Just got 20.58 MPG on my last trip up and down SoCal... not bad considering I sat through almost 2 hours of traffic. I hate SoCal gasoline... oxygenated = less efficient...

I get around 20 MPG in my M6 driving around town. I could get 300 miles to a tank of gas on a long trip running about 80. But that was before I changed my exhaust system. Now I'm adding a cam, so my MPG is fixing to take a considerable plunge. It's too much fun, like you all say, to hit those on ramps & straight aways!
