Default Do What 1st For My Engine?

I'm new to the site and finally got some money to put into my 1999 Z-28 LS1. It's a m6. Already have exhaust (no heads) and free ram air cuts in the air box. Thats about it. I want to start off with engine performance modifications. Curious on what mod would be good to start off with to upgrade my stock engine. Open to any comments, Thanks!

i'd say do a lid (if you haven't already) and then exaust. get a cat back and a y pipe. if your not to worried about smog then go for some long tubes. those are pretty much the first mods everyone does. and since you have a 99 you might want to look into a a LS6 intake.

Then I suggest getting the big one out of the way... 12 bolt with 4.30 gears.

well...he says hes got exhaust...how far up? if you dont have a y pipe of headers do that and lid. new clutch. then get ready for that new rear end that TNorman said. not necissarely 4.30's but a 12 bolt is good, cuz theyre notorious for snapping.

Do some searches for "first mods".

Define exhaust. If you don't have headers, get some. (macs okay, preferably longtubes)

When you say ram air cuts I assume you are referring to FRA (free ram air), which is cut into the air box not the lid.

If you don't have a lid, get one. (a lid is a lid is a lid)

Eliminate CAGS.

Clutch

Rear end if you plan to run at the track. Look into some nitto drag radials if/when you get a rear. (rears are expensive, BTW)

Subframe connectors.

LS6 intake manifold

ported throttle body

Cold air induction (slp, FTRA, SSRA...)

After you finish the basic power bolt-ons, clutch and possibly rear start thinking about a cam.

then i would suggest you follow Patricks route, in the end it gave him 400rwhp in a completely smog legal package. its not cheap but well worth the cost of no smog or cop hastles.

AFR 205's
TR Cheater cam
shorties (1 3/4 primaries, dont rememeber who makes them; edlebrock)
catted Y
then your typical bolt ons (lid, TB, pulley, intake, ect).

if no long tubes, then get some, and a ypipe or true duals... otherwise, go with an ls6 and a cam!

Lid, sub-frame connectors, and shifter. Those should be the first mods, power or not you'll need them.

Peace,
Craig.
