LS1 swap into High mileage LS1
Not exactly sure where to put this but here goes:
Has anyone ever done this and is it a good idea? Buy a high mileage but well maintained LS1 Camaro or Firebird for around 7 grand or so and then swap in a brand new LS1...or something better. How much work is involved? I imagine its fairly simple for what it is, but what do I know. Please many responses and opinions.

I bought a LS1 with 106,000 its a B4C. Why swap the engine?? A well maintained car, is well maintained. My B4C engine with a very resent compression check came back perfect. I'm so confident in the engine even at 106,000+ miles its getting a $7,000 supercharger installed.

do you mean putting a newer less mileage LS1 in an old high mileage. for instance buy an 02 LS1 and put it inside of some 98 F-body (LS1 of course) w/ 150,000 miles on it? If so i assume its just a matter of bolting it right in, a little wiring/computer tweaking would do the trick. Wiring Harnesses, EGR delete form the computer. I would like to say get all the new wiring harnesses, newer PCM, and upgrade the tramny if possible while you can!

Oh, by the way, would a new LS1 only swap into an A4, because that's all I've seen from reading on LS1 Crate Motor websites? I would like it to swap into a 6 speed.

Little more to it than that. Cheapest way out is to buy the same year engine or just buy a long block and swap the parts over. A '98 is different than the rest of the years wiring & PCM wise. There are other slight variations between different years. I believe the instrument cluster wiring is different ,too. You may end spending more in the long run.
