Drilling a hole in the cat, is it a good idea?

P0420 is the driver's side, it's fairly common for them to go bad, sometimes they don't even rattle. If you told them it was rattling they should know what's going on - maybe try calling another dealer, or do a search in the diagnostics forum for "P0420" and see what others have experienced.

Well I was wanting to drill a hole in there to let out all the little debre that's acumulated in there, when you drill it out, there usually is a bunch of little white rocks that form in ther and restrict the flow (i've done it to about 4 of my cars and was wondering if the ls1 would respond the same way, but after reading the thread, it seams like a bad idea, good thing i havnt done it)

I cut the pipe off the bottom of my cats and cleaned it out without removing them from the car. then I welded the pipe back on. if you have a welder that is the easiest way to do it. you will need to get a O2 sim to make the car think the cats are still working. I wired my o2 sim up near the computer so if you look under the car it looks totally stock still with the rear o2 sensors still plugged in and everything.
I cut the pipe off the bottom of the cats through the factory weld so when I welded it back on it still looks stock.
