Yea I don't feel a difference either except in the wallet but for 3 bucks extra per fillup or so its just not worth the risk of breaking something since the cost of that would definetely outweigh the money you saved on 20 cents a gallon

I go out of my way to get 94 octane from Sunoco, they have the highest octane around my area. Just my two cents.

Again here is the quote:

If your vehicle has the 5.7L V8 engine (VIN Code G),
use premium unleaded gasoline with a posted octane
of 91 or higher for best performance. You may also
use middle grade or regular unleaded gasoline rated at
87 octane or higher, but your vehicle’s acceleration may
be slightly reduced.
If the octane is less than 87, you
may get a heavy knocking noise when you drive. If it is
bad enough, it can damage your engine.
I suppose that if you are stock, have not had the car tuned or done anything to advance/perfect the timing, don't care about reduced gas mileage and/or power and believe the manual to be correct all the time.

The manual also says that the LS1 displaces 350 cubic inches.

So if the manual is not correct & my engine gets damaged by 87 octane...
I can't see GM risking a lawsuit by give wrong information like that.

dsz28:

I am sure that most will agree with me. These cars cost a lot of money to operate/repair/maintain etc. Just pump premium fuel and call it a day. If funds are a problem then do not drive it like a Formula 1 car, that right there should save gas.

If your engine gets damaged by 87 octane your mods will surely have a negative impact on your case.

I would say its probably safe to go switch off every other tank premium / midgrade but how much are you saving ? 1.55?

It'S only 2-3 more dollars a tank to fillup with premium If you can't afford that how do you pay for your car?

EXACTLY!!! Quite being cheapasses and treat your car right. Everyone wants to mod there car to make it faster run better etc. Well one thing that will "help" is to run the proper fuel to start with.

I remember this guy I raced in my pewter car back when it was relatively stock, lid/filter, and Blowmaster. Before we raced he asked me what I was running, I told him 93. He said "I'm running 87" I said "Does it do ok for ya?" He was like "I ain't lost a race yet." I handed his *** to him, he was a 99 TA 6speed car and no the fuel had nothing to do with his loss, his driving did.

Point is don't be one of the idiots that brag about being a cheapass and getting by. Represent the F bodys and LS1, don't be the typical "dumbass" that alot of us run into.

So even if we are near stock, we should still use 93 octane? The only mod I've done is an air lid and I still use 87. I was going to wait until after I got LT headers and my true duals before I moved up to 89 or 93. I used my owners manual as well and read that they recommend 87. Can somebody give me advise on this?

Who is they? Read again, the owner's manual recommends premius (91+). It does say that lower octane can be used, though.

running one tank of 87 very probably will not damage anything. for reference, i always fill up at the 25% mark, since once you get to 50% left, the rest goes down real quick.
