quite a bit and see ambient+3 - ambient+5 consistently.
Ambient being the temperature displayed on the drugstore
& bank signs. That's not a significant warming in my book.
What does a stock Z/28 run? A !FRA car? I know adding
the SLP CAI raised my temps, saw ambient+15 and worse
(the stainless being a heat sponge inches from the radiator).
My "factory" SS hood is cool to the touch even after long
hard running. It doesn't conduct heat very well. Do you
have some measured basis for what you say? It sure does
not agree with what I see on mine.
Where the performance comes in, is at higher outside air
temps. Cooler air is better air, yeah. But that's not where
the gain comes from - it's the PCM reaction to warm air.
Timing starts to be pulled at IAT above 98F and by 122F
you've lost 3 degrees. Sitting on 90F blacktop, 5 degrees
rise costs you nothing at WOTand 30 degrees temp rise
costs you 3 degrees of WOT advance.

Local friend of mine who works at Comp Cams built it. I was rather fortunate he wanted my LS1 block for a project so I gave him that as part of the payment. If you total everything shortblock, heads, clutch and labor to do it all I had to pay right around $6000. I dropped the car off to him and picked it up a couple of months later, he charged me $4000 to do it and I bought the heads and clutch to support it and gave them to him.

I am an SS fanantic, and the hood does have some functionality, not much, but it does serve a purpose. Why else would GM put it on the car for 4 years. Why would they have even made the hood have those channels if they served no purpose. The design is not great, but the hood does give a little performance in cold temps, and at high speeds. And this ALSO is coming from a guy with a 500 rwhp SS.

Lets see 70% of the people here say it doesnt, thats the majority of the site. Even JRP is saying it doesnt and Im sure hes done alot more research than all of us. I think most of the ones who are voting yes are doing so because of how you worded your question. Ill agree that the hood actually does get air to the engine but the small amount of air and the temp of the air when it gets there causes it to NOT ENHANCE PERFORMANCE. Ill tell you what though you keep modding the car like you are, spending hundreds of dollars on hoods and the such. Ill keep going the way I am and do mods that actually enhance performance and then we will both be happy so it doesnt matter what anyone else thinks. You got your K & N yet?? Ive heard that adds atleast 10 hp.
