Ouch! You seem to have my luck.
My wife claims my car is a money pit (130K +) miles, and is relatively free of mods. I keep telling her the 10 bolt, the 4L60e will go soon, but WHAT A DEAL I GOT 5 years ago! LOL.
My advice is to find a really good shop, work a deal whereby you don't need the car RIGHT NOW and have this stuff checked out. I know it's hard for our cars, no one where I live even knows what an LS1 is, LOL.
...and speed shops, what's that? Not here.
Get some Helms manuals, that will help you see what's happening. Well worth the price.
Good luck,
GWJ

Hey some of you guys are being pretty harsh. Bottom line is he payed 3300, you live and learn, but whats done is done. But no one likes buying a car and then feel like its falling apart on you, that is a horrible feeling to have. Seems like it could just suck up your money forever. You gotta make the decision to keep the car on your own. If a couple years down the road you're going to think back at this moment and get sick to your stomach because of the money you put into this car, cut your losses and get rid of it. Especially if you really don't have the money to keep repairing your car. Like "gwj" said, find a shop that you trust to have them look it over and see how much it will be to repair everything, that will help you make your decision. Sorry if this wasn't very helpful......whatever you do, no regrets. Good luck.

Hey man i feel your pain, when i first got my car i lost the tranny, didnt know anything about converters etc. and i paid 2200 for a stock rebuild, w/a shift kit, w/that kind of money i could have a stage 3 tranny right now that could handle 700+ rwhp, i kick my self everytime i think about it, but hey you live and learn, dont sell it, you will regret it, you'll see another ta somewhere and wish you had yours, im working on 130k right now and still going strong, like someone said the car is almost new again, and you wont make your 10k back trying to sell it, so keep it and mod the **** out of it

EDIT: I dont know if you meant to say your oil is NOT leaking, or not, but if it is, check the level and if its low top it up, your ticking may be your rockers not pumping up w/enough oil, due to lack of it

You said the car has headers, maybe the ticking is a leak at the primaries?

I pulled/installed my T56 and new LS7 clutch kit and it cost me $3,300 still. The cheapest I found back in 09 which was 4 years after this post to have a bench build done with steel forks, bronze synchros, viper input, and new 5th and 6th gears was $2,600. I had mine done by a reputable company for $2,800. Just to rebuild it most everywhere wanted $1500. These trannys arent cheap at all to BUILD not (Re-Build). LS7 clutch kit cost $500 and I threw it back in myself. The labor for them to tear the tranny down and install all the parts was $1,600. I'd rather of done that than put $3k in the engine though. Its 30xxx miles later and 20 track passes running 12.40's-12.60's@112mph on street tires and full exhaust, free mods only and I havnt missed 1 shift or had a single tranny issue. Tranny issues are the worst by far.

this is a BRAND spanking new tranny... 1900 bucks...
most shops (good ones) charge 200 bucks to remove/reinstall tranny

heres what some good clutches cost....

any of them are better then the stocker...

he robbed you ....
scoggindickey.com has good prices on parts I had a stock LS7 clutch and aluminum flywheel installed on my 99 Z28. Aluminum flywheel takes extra weight and stress off your crank and helps it last MUCH longer the 5-10 HP boost from lighter flywheel is pretty nice too my tranny pops from reverse too I just let the clutch out slowly till it clicks into gear then take it easy in reverse, I'd like to get it fixed but funds are short for now
