Difference in Insurance- SS vs. z28

My girlfriend works at a insurance company she says all companys use different tier systems so prices will vary between companies and states. Just so happens I was going to not buy a convertible trans am cause i though it would be real high compared to other models do to the ease of getting into the car because the of ragtop. I was wrong, the convert was cheaper than all other V8 models to my suprise. Goes to show you have to ask direct sometimes, you would be suprised.

im not sure if the SS is the same as the WS.6 but i know WS.6 is a build number, it does not say anything about WS.6 on the title of my car, but the ws.6 is in the glove box, so thats all that matters to me. Mine is a Firebird Formula/Trans Am on the insurence, or what ever.

For me there was a difference between the T/A and the Z28
975/yr Z28 vs 1100/yr trans am, didn't matter if it was a Z or an SS a T/A or WS6, that was the price, I asked why the difference, and my agent said it was due to the T/A having a higher sticker price (on average)

there is no difference in insurance rates. In fact my SS is cheaper now than my V6 was before. I guess 21 makes a big difference. Just tell them it's a camaro and leave it at that.

and my buddy with farmers lied to them and saved money. they too knew what an SS was and asked him if his was.

A lot of it is based on statistical information, demographics, etc, true. A whole lot more is based on AGE. I probably pay less for a year than some of you pay in a month. Sucks, but it's true. I knew there had to be an upside to getting older.

Most insurance companies don't recognize a Camaro SS, but rather a Z28. So if you have an SS that you want insured, chances are that the price you pay will just about be identical to that of a Z28.

I Have 21st Century. My agent said that it doesn't matter if my car is an SS, It is still classified as a " Camaro Z28". This is because it is a Z28 with the SS apperance package. She said that eventhough it would cost more to repair an SS than a Z28, They are classified as being the same car. If I was to crash my car, that's where RPO codes come into place. I guess it would also vary from state to state and also what company you are dealing with.

I skipped about the second half of the posts, but you might just want to look around for a different company. I know AIG makes big distinctions between 4 bangers and V8s when they offer quotes but Geico doesn't. My insurance would've practically doubled if I upgraded to a V8 with AIG, but with Geico they actually offered me a better quote with a 95 Z28 than a 2003 2.5 Altima!
I'd suggest looking at different companies because some will make you pay out the *** for a V8 and others don't even seem to car what kind of car it is.
